This morning as I drove Mckenna to school she looked up at me with bright eyes because she had just realized something very very very fantastic.
“MOM! It is almost HALLoween! We can listen to the Halloween PLAYlist on Mommy’s iPod in Mommy’s CAR!”
And then she switched the radio over to turn on the Halloween playlist, and we rocked out to this song all the way to school.
I have two holiday playlists – one for Christmas, one for Halloween.
I thought I would share my Halloween list on this very spooky Halloween-y fall kind of day.
Do you have any ideas for songs we are missing out on?
edited to add my updated playlist – thanks for all the GREAT recommendations you guys.
I Put a Spell on You :)
yay! Tara’s sharing playlists! love when cool people share their song choices :) .. no halloween music here .. thought of you today when I bought ben folds tickets :)
alot of great songs. I think I’ll get on itunes and get some of these! thanks for sharing.
Funnest. playlist. ever!
Thanks for the idea–I totally copied it (I had all but 3 in my itunes already!)
Great list!! Thanks for sharing. I would add Dead Mans Party by Oingo Boingo to that list.
These are great guys – can’t believe I didn’t already have these! Thanks.
I might add the Twilight Zone theme and King Tut (steve martin). happy october!
Got have a little David Bowie – Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) and maybe if you are frisky Rocky Horror Picture Show – Time Warp.
I love listening to your Halloween mix too! It always gets me in the spirit.
ooh, you have a few i hadn’t thought of!
some of my faves are:
it’s halloween (the shaggs) – truly a halloween classic
i’m a vampire (future bible heroes)
ghost of a texas ladies man (concrete blonde)
dead man’s party (oingo boingo)
pet cemetery (the ramones)
How about “Something Wicked This Way Comes” from the 3rd Harry Potter soundtrack?
How about Boris the Spider by the Who?
The Time Warp–Rocky Horror Picture Show!
Good ones, all around . . . totally going to snag “Something Wicked” from Harry Potter 3–love that song and never thought to itunes it and make a song list. That’s now my top Halloween priority. I also love all the music from Night At The Museum–that movie always feels very groovy Halloween-ish to me. And you’re missing my favorite . . . “Grim Grinning Ghosts” by BNL.
Dead Man’s Party by Oingo Boingo. It’s six and a half minutes of the same lyrics over and over, but very worth it.
i have two kids that want to be vampires. so we are always singing “i am a vampire” by antsy pants.
If you sold this playlist for download, I would buy it in one split second! Perfect! LOVE!
Dont forget to share you X-Mas one in a few months too!!!
I’d add Every Day is Halloween from Ministry. And some Danny Elfman music from Edward Scissorhands!
Ooops… make that Danny Elfman from Batman or Spiderman (but really, anything Danny Elfman IS Halloween).
When I was young I loved the song “Witch’s’ Brew” but I have no clue who sings it. It was a kids song played on a record player at daycare (it’s been a while:)
Nightmare On My Street, Little Shop of Horrors, The Time Warp – Kidz Bop Halloween
I haven’t found this anywhere else but on YouTube, but this is my top favorite Halloweeny song and video ever. Actually it’s just one of my all time fave songs ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1BKrf26Vh0
Great playlist! Cannot believe you forgot Witchy Woman by the Eagles! Always makes me think of halloween for some reason or other.
how bout this?
and have a laugh at the dodgy film clip too… xx
Today WAS spooky! That was the loudest thunder I have ever heard in my entire life. My kids are little so our Halloween songs are “Ghostbusters” (from the movie) and “Trick or Treat” by Justin Roberts. Might be a kids song but I have to admit I catch myself humming it around the house. =0)
I tore out this list a while back from Cookie Magazine…
Lil Red Riding Hood – Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs
Spooky – Dusty Springfield
Somebody’s Watching Me – Rockwell
Werewolves of London – Warren Zevon
Black Magic Woman – Fleetwood Mac
Thriller – MJ
Boris the Spider – The Who
It’s Halloween – The Shaggs
My Moon My Man – Feist
LOVE your list too! :)
from The Nightmare Before Christmas : This is Halloween and also the excorcist theme!
LOVE making playlists – here are a few from our Halloween playlist that are missing from yours:
Sugar Sugar – the Archies
Superstition – Stevie Wonder
Spooky – The Classics IV
Tubular Bells/Theme from Exorcist – 101 Strings Orchestra
Twilight Zone – Golden Earring
Do You Believe in Magic – Aly & AJ
Abracadabra – Steve Miller
and anything from the Wizards of Waverly Place soundtrack
Please go ahead and share your Christmas play list now! love your blog!
Adding some of these to my ipod! Thanks.
Witchy Woman! :)
dry bones or dem bones
My 7 year old son loves Danny Elfman, so the “main title” song from Beetlejuice is a must on our halloween playlist.
Dead man’s party by Oingo. That’s our go to Halloween song. :)
SO fun! I am going to do this with my daughter today! She’s little, so we will be including things from Count von Count! He’s got a rockin version of Monster Mash with Zoe and Elmo, and funny songs called Transylvania Polka, and Bones Inside of You…really is it clear that I haven’t outgrown Sesame Street myself? Ha!
And hey, what about The Cranberries’ Zombie? :)
ooh, ooh… you’ve GOT to get THIS one! Look up “grim, grinning ghosts” on itunes… it’s the song played ON the HAUNTED MANSION RIDE at Disneyland!!! I’ve been using this as my ringtone for the season. ; )
this made me so happy!!!!
I wish I could buy this in one swoop!
Another vote here for a Christmas playlist now :)
Love this playlist – but you’re missing one of my favorites
Dead Man’s Party – Oingo Boingo
(and if you like stuff a little harder, Living Dead Girl – Rob Zombie)
I have to do this!! My kids will LOVE this.
Oooh, this is a great playlist!! I’d add Zombie Jamboree as performed by Rockapella!
if you ever start a st. patrick’s day list consider the pogues. thanks for posting this i am going to start a halloween one now. my kids are going to be excited too!!
How about Time Warp?
I’ve been playing the true blood soundtrack in the car and this is my kids fave: Bones by Little Big Town. They think the lyrics are fun: “you’ve got bones in your closet, you’ve got ghosts in your town…”
halloween reggae? yes please! ‘ghost town” by the specials.
Thanks for the list! Can you post your Christmas one too?
I love this idea and made my own, thanks for sharing this great list with your readers! So fun! My girls ask to listen to the Halloween music over and over!
The Automatic – monster ! :)
