the golden boy

he is golden. his hair, his skin. his personality. he is the type of person that is just going to get a good life. i think. i hope. he is so dang likeable.

on this day, he rode past me on his bike and i saw the sun in his hair and i yelled,

"nate! get back over here! park yourself right there!" pointing to the spot with my bare foot. drawing an invisible X with my toe.

and he did, because he is just like that. almost always so available for me and my camera.

and this is straight out of camera baby. one shot. blue stained mouth and everything. love it.

and then i remembered something margie said when she was here: "i bet these white garage doors are great reflectors!" when she said it i was like, oh yeah-they are! haha so i used them on nate. (which i am SO going to do over and over now) look at how wonderfully lit his face is. thanks marge!

  1. What a great photo shoot of a GREAT little guy! Thanks for sharing him with us Tara! He is golden.

And just for the record? Who in the world could EVER not like or be mean to Tara Whitney? hahahahaha that’s just ignorent.

We love ya girl. Keep living it how you do.

  2. You know Tara, I wish I could have just an ounce of your photography skills! You totally ROCK! Every shot you take is amazing. You capture not only the subject, but their soul. So many amazing details just POP out! Talent! Talent! Talent!

  3. Another thing you have given me in my pursuit of happiness in Photography is you helped me change my definition of a Photo Shoot. We dress a certain way, our hair a certain way, we go to a certain spot, we pose a certain way and smile. Pray nobody moves and pray it is all perfect. You have showed me that a Photo Shoot is wherever it wants to be and I need to just take advantage of it. You took a little boy outside having fun and you put him in front of a garage door. Typed out it sounds terrible but your pictures are perfect and gallery worthy!! Stand tall stand proud you are amazing :)

  4. You’re in BIG trouble… I think there’s going to be a time in 10 years where the girls are going to be sooo thick at your door you may be housebound ;). I can just see it now… girls camped out on the lawn hoping to catch a glimpse of him. What a cutie!! Love those pics, the sonshiney one… WOWZERS. Pretty fab.

  5. who the heck is this carla anyway? i want to know what you really mean carla….cause that is just not nice if you meant it the way i read it…..hope NOT> tara is her own, and she certainly wouldn’t lie about it….i have been seeing her style in the magazines for several years…..ohhh forget it….tara p

  6. you guys-i really really really appreciate that you have my back, but its really okay. its total drama and just silly.

i absolutely 100% know what my truth is.

and i am fine if someone out there thinks i am a liar. i dont care. that person isnt important to me at all and doesnt affect me at all. seriously. :)

    drama. ;)

    its all good my sisters!

  7. and kara davis-
you made me cry. thank you so much for what you said. it is so true. capturing a person, a family, a child…is NOT about perfection. its about taking whatever you can get in a moment without pushing it, and letting them be themselves.

  8. I think the true, honest and real photography moments are created FOR us not BY us.
I have only been a Mom for 12 yrs and NOW I am finally getting it!! Now where did I leave that time machine……..

I saw this quote just earlier today:
“If you are focused on the way it’s “supposed” to be, you might miss the opportunity to enjoy it as it “is”… wonderful in a totally different way.” – Susan Jeffers
    How perfect :)
