yesterday, her son everett was baptized into the church of jesus christ of latter day saints. i was so happy i could go and take part in this important part of his life. my boys went with me, and i, of course, took photos.

(fyi: in the mormon church, you get baptized when you are eight because then you are old enough to understand gospel principles and be held accountable for your actions. you also have to wear all white, which is why everett and dad are in white jumpsuits.)

  1. Those are awesome photos and congrats to Everett. You are so sweet to take pictures to share in their special occasion. Sharla is blessed.

  2. Wow, great pics Tara! What a handsome young man, and a knock out mom!

I was baptized and became a member of the LDS church 13 years ago–the best decision I ever made. Wish I had some decent photos. So do you want to come to my daughter’s baptism in three years? :)

  3. Exceptional as usual Tara. These milestones are so incredible and to capture them so poignantly just adds to their meaning I think. Thank you so much for sharing those with us! (and btw – for also doing a little teaching about the baptism ceremony).

  4. Tar, You are so sweet, much too flattering. :) The pics will give us something to reflect on once the big day and all the hustle and bustle was over. I just LOVE them. You are the greatest… photographer and friend. Love you!
Everyone else, thanks for the nice thoughts!

  5. Tara, you have such a gift. Your photos are NEVER artificial. They really, truly capture the moment and the personalities of those you’re shooting. I wish I had that.

And, man. I wish I had photos like that of my baptism! Wow. I think I have one polaroid of me with my dad.

  6. Tara, once again. . . you really caught something special with your pics. Love the one of the 3 of them . .. and the bandaid pic! And is that another Tara necklace? Man, I’m gonna have to learn how to do that!

  7. truly beautiful photos capturing what is one of the most significant events in that young man’s life

your friend has a beautiful family – I also think it is wonderful that you explained the concept of baptism for the LDS church – as an LDS person I really appreciate that

thanks for taking the time to share ~

  8. I have a very tender spot for small Mormon boys dressed in white. I think I want to be one, but alas all I get to do is their laundry. Your photos capture the perfect calm of the day. Hope you had great fourth.

  9. Sharla………pure gorgeousness. Tara, you captured her so beautifully. I love the shot of mother and daughter so much! oh….and that necklace….beautiful in color AND in B&W.

Sharla, if you are reading this….it was so fun to see these photos of your family’s special day. You are radiant, and I always love seeing photos of you with your curls and your beautiful eyes. :)

  10. Thanks again everyone! I am so glad I have the keepsakes from the day “Tara Whitney style”. I know I am SO lucky to have her somewhat nearby.
    Margie…Thanks for the compliment!
Did Tara tell you that I heard all about your funny head placement techniques? I have been more photogenic ever since, (I mean I used to put my chin up way too high and look lame).
