when magic happens

It started out like this:

M067

Very sweet kids, very fun kids, still very dry kids.

And quickly moved to this:

M079

The light was AMAZING on this evening, and I had pulled out my 50mm 1.2 lens. These were all shot at 1.2 at 6:30pm. It looks like buttery goodness doesn’t it? That light?

Then the kids just went for it, and the mixture of their freedom and careless joy, the light, the water, and that buttery lens…..?

Magic for this girl. When I was photographing them, I got goosebumps.

I’ll share the rest of the session tomorrow.

  1. I always wondered what your magic time at the beach was…now I know, it is 6:30. And that 50 1.2…..is an amazing lens. I have the 85, and when everything clicks with it….it is unbeatable.

    What a fun, fun session

  2. Beautiful photos. Absolute magic!

And I need to comment on the post below… even though you’ve turned off the comments. What a great article about the pizza dude philosophy. Thanks for sharing. Oprah’s rerun episode last Thursday was about rudeness. It was a great reminder of how to behave in a civilized society. One of the things Oprah said was that a person should be measured by the way we treat the people who serve us (like the pizza dude). I definitely agree.

Anyway, thanks for always making me smile and think and appreciate beauty Tara!

  3. You are so good! I don’t know how you get so much in focus / such good DOF at 1.2. I can’t seem to get more than one eyeball in focus at 1.4! I’m obviously doing something wrong! Also, I’m not you :(

  4. gosh every time i visit here i want to be you or to figure out at the very least to take pictures like you….these are so yummy!! aren’t you offering workshops in FLORIDA sometime soon? I think that is what I heard…purtty please? i even had a house full of 4 kids to make you feel right at home…
