fiesta hair

We are back from our vacation in sweet Santa Barbara. We took the kids up for the week to show them where “we” started – Jeff and I had our first apartment in Isla Vista while we attended UCSB.

We happened to be visiting during Fiesta Week, which is a celebration of the Spanish heritage in Santa Barbara. Which was also lucky for us, oh lovers of all things Spanish heritage. One of the things that symbolizes the week is this confetti. You can buy eggs full of confetti all over State Street and throw them wherever you want. Confetti is EVERYWHERE. One shopkeeper told me they would be sweeping up confetti until Christmas, but with a smile on her face. There are tons of people walking around with confetti in their hair. Which I just thought was oh so charming and couldn’t pass the chance to have some in my own.

I’ll be sharing more from our trip, but first I will be taking a small break from personal images to share some recent work with you.

Tomorrow.

Love love.

  1. I love the confetti – it sounds completely magical and ethereal… Really envious, actually :) In Australia we’re not even allowed to throw confetti at weddings because of the mess… How free!

  2. I met my husband in SB too, 10 years ago!!! Not nearly as classy as you are, we met at the Sportsman downtown. We moved to the OC when our son was 3 weeks old 8 years ago. We thought it would be cheaper, ha ha.

  3. I take my Bean there every summer and we stay at the Santa Barbara Inn so she can swim in the pool, eat picnic dinners on the balcony, walk the beach after, then come back to movie and popcorn…which we ask the guy at the front desk if he can pop for us in the employee workroom. Good times.

And can I just say that the “boobies” comment was a lol moment, mainly bc your response was so great, and one that I could relate to. Not that I usually eavesdrop but it was just a little too hard not to notice.

  4. these eggs will forever remind me of easter – since that’s when my grandma would make them for me. absolutely LOVE these three images. these might actually be my new favorites. they’re awesome. who took them?

  5. ah… this makes my heart so happy – confetti eggs are the best! it’s been a long time since i’ve been in sb for the fiesta days… my mom used to march in that parade as a kid with her siblings. you know bates road off of 101 and the iconic rincon point photo? that’s our family’s ranch :) anyway, can’t wait to see more of your trip!
