my favorite window

This is my favorite window in my house.

When we were looking at homes to buy in this neighborhood, I remember walking into this place and noticing the ledge and window immediately. The previous owners had a super boring display of NOTHING on it. I said to Jeff and the realtor, “If we get this house I am going to do something so amazing on that ledge.”

(My intentions always being greater and more amazing than my reality.)

Well we got the house and the ledge has gone through many, many, many transformations. None as amazing as my intentions.

But.

For the last few years all of the plants in my house seemed to wander around and finally found a favorite place there. They really, really like it there. I put them there one day to get sun after a good drench, and they thrived so I left them. I kept adding more. One or two died off or needed less sun so they moved. Right now we are missing a couple and I need to add more. So I fill in the blank spots with baby’s breath in jars and pitchers.

The way the sunlight filters in the window and back lights the leaves gives me the greatest pleasure. This is where we burn our incense. This is where we drop rocks and sticks and leaves found while out and about. This is where I put handmade goodies from the kids. This is the spot I walk by nearly a million times a day. The green and the light greet everyone who walks into our house.

So while I had bigger dreams for this ledge, what ended up making me the happiest was something so simple, that happened so organically, with not much planning.

It’s kind of like an analogy for my whole life.

  1. oh wow i love it. i love the greens also and the way the sunlight filters through the leaves. simple is good. simple is better. less is more. it’s the smallest of things in life that make us the happiest isn’t it!

  2. my favorite ledge is here http://www.rachaelmayphotography.com/personal/my-view-portland-family-photographer/….since we live in the NW it’s still cold and our greenhouse science project had to stay indoors, in my bedroom in the only window that had any chance of getting sun (if it came out). I transferred the plants to a bigger pot instead of just soup cans because my boys HATED the idea of just putting them in the trash….

Now, every morning I wake up…open my eyes to our 6 greenbean plants that are even growing some beans and it reminds me of them and their cute selves.
