• this is a broadcast of the i promise i will post more than once a week now that school is starting system •

hi there.

(waving)

so yea, school tomorrow. i seem more nervous than them. i just keep envisioning drew alone at the middle school lunch tables, not having the safety of the “class table”. im trying to breathe through it.

id love to share a client session, because i have MANY from the summer that i haven’t yet shared, and i’m excited to! i had some fun ones.

to start, a lovely family that are also friends of mine. amie and ken (and ava) had the lovely idea of meeting up at the orange county fair for photos. i was like, UM YES PLEASE.

when you lean down to take one of your first family photos and THIS HAPPENS,

you know its going to be a good shoot.

ken and amie seriously have the most wonderful attitude. i ADORE them. just look how adorable they are?!

and they love love love their little girl.

the second she said OC fair, i said PHOTO BOOTHS! the sweet girl was completely overwhelmed by the noise, lights, and sounds. we had a tough time keeping her together, but she held out just long enough to get these, and i will be forever grateful to her for that. (love to you sweet ava!)

we then begged a 16 year old kid for one of these because poor ken had failed miserably in his trying to win one.

after all that fun, we just had to have one near death experience to top the night off. and an apple fritter. (i was laughing my brains out taking this)

  1. I adore your pictures! They have such a fun down to earth feel…I bet you are a lot of fun to hang out with! :)

My girls are getting ready to start their 3rd week of school. (we live near St.Louis) It has been crazy, but getting back in a routine has been nice!

I hope your kiddos have a great first day!

  2. I don’t know why I’m surprised that the OC fair is bigger than our podunk one, but our slide only has 3 lanes. Super photos, as always. It’s amazing how you can aim your camera at a family and actually end up with a photo of LOVE.

  3. i’ve done two sessions at the fair this year. they were SO FUN! they were both senior sessions, so a family session would be awesome. love your first shot of the goat. can’t believe it came in so good and completely in focus. i took a pic of sam at the zoo one day in the petting zoo part and two goats were head butting (did i spell that right?) him. the pic was SO out of focus, but so precious to me!!!!! i’m so ready for my JUST BE blog to be back on track so i can get my fix more than once a week. i guess you get tired of seeing STRAWBERRY PLAINS, TN on your site map! :)

  4. Not sure if I have commented before or not but just felt like sharing…your blog, your photography, your life are all so lovely and inspiring! I look forward to your new posts and love the creativeness you bring to my own blossoming photography skills! :) Hope your night is grand! :)

  5. Love the images as always :) I also have to ask…how the heck do you get such spot-on exposure, especially in those lighting conditions?? I find I am constantly underexposing my images…always needing to bump up the exposure on my raw images.
good luck this week with the kids back in school…I know just how you feel…I’m nervous for them, and a little sad for myself :(

  6. I sooooo know them and have wondered where they are for years ( I moved away and we lost touch). I’m so excited they have a little girl. Yeah for them. PLEASE pass my info on to Amie and let her know I would love to find her!

  7. Unbelievable pictures! I love the colors and expressions. You really capture the moment. I’m also DYING to know where she got her jeans! I’d love to purchase a pair for myself for this Fall! Any chance you could ask her and post it here????

    XOXOX
A big fan of you, your blog, and your creative genius

  8. Hey, that’s me! :) This was a fun shoot and I will forever be indebted to Tara for always coming through for us!!! To answer the question about my jeans, they are a brand that I wear a lot called Kut from the Cloth. I happen to purchase these at Nordstrom but they are very reasonably priced (under $80). They are very comfortable and all of my Kut’s wear very well. Very washer friendly too! Now, about that last picture…before we went down I told my sweet hubby that we should hold hands. We didn’t but he decided to grab my hand mid slide! Um, Hello…a little thrown off balance!!! He was not a physics major! It ended up fine and there is another shot of us laughing on the way down. So all is well! (Tara, you should post the shot of us being fine at the end!) Thank you for your concern! ;)

Thanks for the sweet comments! As always, Tara is the best at what she does!!!!

  9. THat looks like an awesome session! (Well, ALL of yours do :-) ) Good luck with the school issues. We started last week. I have twins who are in middle school (boy/girl twins) My son didn’t know ANYONE in lunch that was a boy that he wanted to sit with. So he came home crying (BROKE MY HEART). So I suggested that the next day he sit with Callie (his twin sister) and all of her girlfriends. I told him to just walk up to them with confidence like sitting there would be the COOLEST thing in the world to do. (Callie wasn’t too thrilled but her friends LOVE it, cause Cole’s a cutie! LOL). So now that permanent seats have been made, Cole looks like the cool dude! THANK GOD! I think middle school is so hard…I want to sheild them from EVERYTHING!

  10. Okay, Tara, it’s time for you to start sharing your photo stats! Those “dusk” shots are extraordinary, with hardly any noise given the darkness. I assume you used a prime lens, but what other camera settings did you use to get such crisp action shots in low light? Do share! You are such an inspiration, and so brave to do a shoot at a fair.

  11. So I am a BIG fan of you Tara and Ken and Amie are why. I know a little of their backround and about their daughter and I am teary looking at how big she has grown in the last couple of years, you have done a WONDERFUL job capturing the love this family shares. Ken is just as loud in print as his is in person, that is so great.
