• oh yea. we’ve still got it baby. •

with him heading up something like 100 upgrades for all of the CSU campuses starting this month and lasting the next six and me working 20-30 hours a week plus our mom and dad duties, we havent had a moment for each other, let alone a night out, in MONTHS.

this summer grabbed us, shoved us around a little, maybe punched us once or twice, then threw us up in the air and stepped back to see how and where we would land.

i am 31, and i have spent almost 16 years with this man. 16 years is as long as i lived before him. we are getting to the point where we can say we have been together longer than we were apart. and i am happy to say that this summer couldn’t beat us. we landed right where we always do-back into the circle of our life, our love, our family.

last week we stole off for a few hours to grab some grub and margaritas at our favorite cantina in san clemene: el mariachi, and then took a blanket to state beach where we cuddled, talked, and dozed with our full bellies.

its precious to me that we can be at each others throats and all we need is a short amount of time, sometimes mere minutes, to find our way back to the place we meet.

the place we fit.

  1. Wow. That is so awesome. I lurk here all the time, I almost never comment but I had to. Thanks so much for sharing this Tara. It’s so great to see that hard times CAN and DO bring people closer in their relationship. I feel the same way about my DH, I am the same age as you and DH and I have been together for 16 years also. What a blessing!

  2. Tara..you are so lucky. Yesterday, me and my hubby celebrated 17 years together!!!!!!!!!!! We are both 34 and we have spent half of our lives together. Such a treasure!! Such a rare…and special love that we too share. I can’t wait for tomorrow night…that’s when we get to sneak away for a few precious hours of ALONE time too!!! Congrat to you both. You look great…and happppppy…both of you. Love the images..!!

  3. You guys are just so cute! You make me have butterflies in my stomach and a little tear in my eye of how sweet you are. Not only you, but your whole family gives me inspiration. I feel like I know you and wish we could hang out and take pictures. Your posts make me smile and brighten my day. Thank you!

  4. delurking to say holy cow, if this is what stress does to you, it aint all bad. you really look amazing. the hair looks great a bit longer, you look amazingly svelte and most imprtant, very comfortable in your own skin.
i think the secret isnt the stress, its that, IN SPITE OF IT, you can still flourish by keeping your sights on the things that matter most.
you are definteiyl doing something right – maybe even several somethings.

  5. nice that you had that time!
my husband and i NEED to make that time.
life sure gets in the way……

  6. That post was freaking awesome.

I know EXACTLY how you feel about your husband. I’m slightly older than you (36) but I’ve been with my husband 16 years as well. We drive each other nuts from time to time, but at the end of the day there’s nothing better than cuddling up together on the couch with a beer.

  7. Your hair is so great!! The color, the cut, the way it hangs – beautiful! You do need to frame & hang these in your bedroom – a constant reminder of how well you ‘fit’.

  8. i’m diggin’ the long hair, tara! so cute!!!!

and kudos to being able to pick up right where you guys left off after a crazy, crazy summer… we had baby #2 this summer and my husband and I will undergo the same experiment this friday night.

    minus the beach. dang it.

  9. LOL Tara :-)

DH and I love nothing more than getting Mexican at a beach resturant and then strolling along the boardwalks and grabbing ice cream. That few hours every 6 months is such a HUGE blessing. So cool that a mexican meal and the beach has the same results in Aus as it does in the USA. Nothing better than holding his hand, chatting about “stuff” and feeling like it’s our first date.

  10. Tara & Jeff, Anytime you two want to sneak off again, just let me know and I’ll drive in to the OC and hang with the grand kids while you steal away. I love you guys and my heart is glowing with pride. I’d also like to add… “the greatest thing a mother can do for her children… is to love their father”. Papa James

  11. That is so sweet Tara. I started to date my husband at age 15 and I am almost 34. So very similar to you, I have 4 kids too, so I totally understand where you are coming from. You look so good in that picture and your hubby and you seem so fun and silly together. Yes, you still have it…

  12. I already told you before you looked good T. But these photos……….. you look so happy, a little bit of together time with your man, just so happy. Think of it, I´m gonna have some time with my man too :) :) maybe take some pics too hmmm not sure he’s into that though LOL

    Have a great weekend

  13. most beautiful post I have read anywhere for some time.
I love these words from the rockin’ Anais Nin, “Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born”. Your lives, like real people in love, who have real marriages and real relationships, are coloured with individual joy and darkened by personal sadness. Combined, your history enriches your partnership. You are both wiser and smarter and more confident to share of yourselves and give generously, and without trepidation. That’s why you still have it. Take care of it.
