these kids gave me a hug the second i stepped out of my car

and i was so shocked and surprised! they even gave me cheek kisses! normally i get that at the end of a session, not the very beginning. so my heart was melted from the moment we met. amyotte-copy.jpg

we started out on the beach on a cloudy quiet morning.

i LOVED their colorful outfits. that green is my favorite color ever. i cant remember what we were laughing about here, but i also love their natural expressions.

after we dragged them from the beach we walked around, hitting up the donut shop for a snack, the fish market, my favorite alley, and ending with a short walk along the beachfront.

  1. I hate the heat and that green is also my favorite color. We could be twins.
Love the last shot, with both kids on dad’s shoulders. Wish I’d have thought of that before mine went and got too big!

  2. T,
I love looking at your website. It’s like addictive candy for my brain. I feel MUCH sympathy for the sinus infection. I tried a Neti pot earlier this year because I was having super frequest super severe sinus infections and it’s really worked for me. Just throwin’ it out there! :) I hope you start feeling better soon.

  3. it’s been on and off hot here too…some days up to 95 and i hate that in june. in july and agust okay, but NOT JUNE! LOL! LOVE these shots tara, esp the daddy holding them ONE!!!
hey, i saw you had emailed me but it went in my spam folder….let me know what you said!

  4. Hey Tara, you need to go to the health food store and buy a neti pot for your sinus’s. It is better than taking prescription drugs and dealing with the side effects of those.
Also, from your previous blog about organics…GO ORGANIC!!!…my belief is that you would rather pay more money for clean food than pay your doctor’s fee’s later for all the damage from the toxin’s that are sprayed on our foods that will make you and your family sick later.
I am new to blogging and enjoy reading yours :)

  5. great pics tara! love the reflections! we were just there and i agree the 100 degress was WAY too hot. glad to be home in our 60 degree weather today :)

  6. The hand in hand shot with the reflection is one in a million, great work. Funny how us Mommies are always looking down at our kids in photos. Making sure they are looking at the camera, booger-free etc… We need to start looking up so our lives are documented by our hairdos!

  7. I was born and raised in So. California. First the South Bay area and then inland….Riverside county. I went to Palomar JC. We left California almost 15 years ago and one of the big reasons was the heat. Just to darn HOT!!! We live in midwestern MN now and after you get used to the humidity it isn’t nearly as bad as So. Cal. Today was a perfect 80 degrees….our warmest so far and we spent the day at the waterpark/pool. I love California for the food and the beaches, but it wasn’t enough to keep us there. I love raising my 4 dd in Minnesota (pronounced Minne soh tah!). I truly hope you feel better very soon. It sucks to be sick in that awful heat!

  8. Mirror on the wall, whos the sexiest photographer of them ALL!!! TARA WHITNEY!! HOT & fan-tabulously
talented! =) Were your ears burning yesterday? I hope so…we were talking about you and your greatness all the way from Aust (which Im sure is completely common).

  9. You are allowed to whine all you want about the heat as long as you don’t complain or whine when it’s cold. Go right ahead. As long as you only complain about one or the other. It’s a rule, at least in our house. Husband complains all winter — every inch of snow, the windchill, the below zero temperatures. He cries and pitches fits. And I stay silent. I hold it all in and never utter a peep. (Then again, I don’t usually wear a coat until it hits 30 and I NEVER zip my coat until it hits the single digits.) Because, to me, 76 degrees and above is too hot, especially in the sun. 90 degree days are the worst, ever. Husband waves happily to me from the hot muggy outside, and I slink to sit near the vent, air conditioner blasting, and wave back. How much do I hate the heat? One of my co-workers said that the only time 90 is good is if you have water to jump in. I told him, “I wouldn’t like 90 if I had a pool. I wouldn’t even like 90 if I had a pool BOY!”

  10. I sympathize with you, because I also hate the heat….but on to more important matters, such as the beautiful candor you once again captured with this family! so classic, so tara (that’s TAAAR- UH) by the way :)

  11. i just love your photos. They’re a big inspiration for me when i’m photographing my children or my nieces. One day i hope to be just such a cool photographer as you are; probably many years from now. ;)

  12. Tara, your work is just outstanding and beautiful! I love photography and I would really like to know how you get all the backgrounds so highly exposed. Is it something that you do in Photoshop? I hope you can share you secrets.:)

  13. Beautiful pictures Tara! I truly love how incredibly natural and full of love your photographic eye can capture family shots like these. The colors and textures are fantastic as well. As for the color green this sweet mom is wearing–an all-time favorite of mine as well. My kitchen is this yummy color of green and I especially love it when the morning sun hits the them through my dining room window. Off to create something now. With hugs, Eva
