did you guys see Elf?
did you love Zooey Deschanel when she sang in the shower in that movie?
did you google her name after and try to find anything she had recorded online?
did you get totally bummed when you couldnt find anything?
i did.
but now all my dreams have come true.
she has an album: She&Him
i havent had much of a listen to it yet, just discovered it today while buying some music. but my initial preview had me feeling like i was sitting in a cozy chair with a quilt on the porch of a beach house in nantucket, surrounded by reeds and white sand. and she was playing on speakers in the house. and ive never even been to nantucket, but that is what i imagine it would be like.
Thank you for that information. We just watched the Assasination of Jesse James (with Brad Pitt) and she is also in that….singing. She has such a beautiful voice.
I will check it out. Thanks again….I love your blog and your work. a Big fan!
Oh thanks for the heads-up. I’m downloading it as I write this – I love her voice!
I loved her in that, especially that scene, even after watching “Elf” four thousand times over Christmas. Thanks for the info!
Yes, yes and yes!
…and thank you for sharing – you made my day!! :D
that is EXACTLY what Nantucket is all about! come on up here, and check it out!~
love that music!
tara…you made my day. i’m downloading the cd right now. :)
love new music.
happy wednesday!
tara you should see Winter Passing too if you like her voice… thanks for sharing this album find!
Did you see her in the SciFi channel’s remake of the Wizard of Oz? It’s a really different take on the story, but she plays the main character. I thought it was a lot of fun – check it out!
How random. I *just* saw that movie a couple of days ago and while watching that scene, I thought to myself… “she is sooo being dubbed over”.
Oops. Guess not. It just looked so fake to me…
OMG Tara…I live in Massachusetts and I’ve been to the Cape and Nantucket many times. You described it right down to a T! It was unreal! I went to iTunes and listened to a bit of it and I think I’m going to buy it. We are going to the Cape for a week in July and now all I want is for it to be summer with us down there listening to this CD.
Oh My Gosh!!! Thank you SO MUCH for blogging about this! I absolutely LOVE her voice, I bought the Elf soundtrack just for that song! Whoo hoo I’m gunna go buy this CD right now!
Wrote a post to one of my music lists about this band a few weeks ago. Never been an M. Ward fan (although he’s local here -Portland), but love her. Loved her in Winter Passing.

hmm … i always figured that wasn’t her really singing. i’m gonna have to totally check out this album!!
Thanks heaps for that Tara. I love her in Elf and did exactly what you said and tried to find stuff of hers online. I am so downloading that album now.
Awesome.
Thank you.
Good grief — I checked it out on iTunes, and I think I will love every single song! Thanks for the head’s up. It’s kinda like when I saw “Dan in Real Life” and fell in love with the soundtrack, especially the song that plays during the credits, and now I am in love with Sondre Lerche. If you haven’t listened to him yet, you must check him out. My favorite song is “Modern Nature”…
OMG so awesome! Yet another thing we have in common – my BF and I both just love her. I did choir all through school, so I was super impressed when I found out it was actually her singing. She does some in that Tin Man series, and she’s been somewhat involved in this cabaret group with Maggie Gyllenhaal. Going to go order that now! :) TYFS!
I did the same thing! Thanks for the info!
I loved that movie, loved that song they sang, and now I’m off to listen to the album. Thanks for sharing, Tara!
ok..that is EXACTLY what i did…(word for word in that exact order ..too funny) after i saw her in Elf!! i am so happy you found this i will DEFINITELY check it out!!
also wanted to add that she is on the Elf soundtrack singing that same song!
Did you see that you were featured on Blogs of Photogs today?!www.blogsofphotogs.blogspot.com I had recommended you to her(although, I am sure I wasn’t the only one!)–so glad she is showing your work! You are amazing!!
heck yeah. just mentioning that sceen in elf gets me all goose bumpy. her voice is great, really great. i’ll check it out.
on a side but musical related note. we emailed briefly a while back about okkervil river. at the time you were checking them out. wanted to share that they have an AWESOME concert on fabchannel.com. what a great site that is if you haven’t checked it out. my husband & i have now taken in okkervil & bright eyes at home with the kiddos all tucked in upstairs. getting to see the real deal, okkervil in the flesh, next month.
wow. that is really cool.
Here’s a great little youtube video of her –

LOVE her, so glad you blogged this. I think M. Ward is one of the best artists out right now, if you like this you’d love some of his solo stuff. “Post War” is on my top 10 list of albums this decade for sure. I think they’re dating – their duets sure are beautiful.
How did you KNOW I looked for Zooey on Google right after seeing that movie? And that I was devastated she didn’t have an album out? And that I LOVE her voice? How could you not though, let’s be honest. Thank you for sharing this bit of info! I am psyched to go pick up the album!
uh. yeah. thought i was the only one though…
THANK YOU, i’m now ordering her music and i’m so happy!
Delurking for this post! Everytime I’ve watched Elf I’ve thought that about Zoey’s voice. Thanks Tara! You rock!
Awesome news.. thanks for sharing.. I love her.. shes awesome
Elf is one of our favorite family movies…
Whenever one of our kids says something ISN’T true, but it really IS true, Our line around here is , “There’s no singing at the north pole”.
So many quotables in that movie!!! (It’s the first movie I’ve ever quoted!)
Anyway, thanks so much for the news about Zooey. I’ve been hoping she’d do one!
thanks! i can’t wait to check it out!
Happy Easter

Yes, I did love that scene, tara!
I can watch that movie over and over and still laugh til my stomach hurts. “make work your new favorite” seems to be the most repeated movie line at our house. ;)
