just hung that little chalkboard up in my bathroom. i walk past this doorway about a thousand trillion times everyday so i figured it would be a fun little place to put an inspirational message. i think the next one is going to say for a good time, call mckenna 867-5309 or maybe just step away from the ledge lady, step away from the ledge.
i found that little chalkboard at a flea market, and had to repaint it with chalkboard paint (good thing i had that on hand) in order to actually use chalk on it.
little accomplishments like that make me really proud of myself.
kind of referencing this post, im still puttering around my house making things pretty and sweet. this is my view when i walk in my front door now. well, kind of, if you walked in, turned right, and sat down on the ground.
and i cant tell you how many kinds of happy this room makes me.
this room is a work in progress. couch-free hand me down. blue table-lucky antique SCORE. red leather chair-awesome AS IS costco purchase. until we can afford the real deal of what i want in here, this will do just rightly.
but please do know, i cleaned up for this picture.
and please do know, that i have no desire to perpetuate the myth that a room in my house looks like a catalog all day everyday. or SHOULD. no, i think a house should be sweet, neat, pretty, and LIVED IN.
the chalkboard is cool. love the throw over the sofa. mind if i ask where you got it? i love all the colors you are using, they make everything look so happy.

Ok, your disclaimer made me feel better…my house NEVER looks like a magazine & I only have 2 kids! I too am trying to fall in love with my house again – being cooped up in below zero temps in MN can make anyone feel like redecorating! Love love love the throw on the couch!
hey ria :)
the blanket is from pier one-a long time ago-i saw it on a blog and looked for it-pier one no longer sold it so i found it on ebay! i just LOVED the colors and knew it would look great in my house. :)
Cool idea, chalkboard in the bathroom, really great for doodlers killing time. Your color on the bathroom walls I love, love, love. Wish I could be braver with color.
Just to let you know, think your website rocks.
wow, you’ve changed it lots since i was there last. i looks so cozy. and i cannot believe you – a mother of 4 children – are brave enough to have a white couch. that’s just like poking a stick at a snake, man. are you crazy?! lol. i love it!
kim-HAHA
its a slipcovered couch from ikea-super easy to take off and throw in the wash with bleach. but its mostly for sessions, or that is the plan anyway. i do not want to worry about white couches forever. ;)
ooh the light is amazing, cuppa tea heaven
I’m loving the new floors. Don’t they make a world of difference? HEY…btw…making a trip out there to the flea market in April if you are in the mood. Its the second Sunday in April.
tara! it looks sooo different! i love it. gorgeous. it does look like a catalog and lived in …. perfect!
thanks tara. i’ll take a looksie on ebay. i found a colorful striped throw at ikea. it’s not as cool as yours though.

Is that the bathroom downstairs? So cute. Next time I am at your house I will be writing you guys some notes. LOL
Your front room is all kinds of happy.
Where did you get that blanket / throw??? It’s gorgeous.
Thanks for sharing this happy view of your home! Your style inspires me. I love your bathroom paint color…would you be willing to share what brand and color it is?
Thanks bunches!

I love your hardwood floors, and was wondering what brand and type they are. We are in the market for new hardwood, and this looks like just what I want!
Thanks!
Rebecca
awwww…I love all the white! It is beautiful and peaceful! Do I dare do white with 3 little ones…I want to…BAD!
love that room – and the throw.. :) We have a similar sofa from ikea. It was in my studio at our previous house and despite it being cream/pale latte I found it so much easier to live with we got rid of the big suite and went with it in the family room – it is so easy to just wash it.. but it doesnt seem to get dirty often :)
it looks awesome, tara. I loved all the signs hanging up in your home and the chalkboard is too cute.
your chalkboard is darling. :) love the living room – all that white is awesome.
go girl! love all the little touches you are giving your home- it’s a great reminder to me to remember that as moms and homemakers part of our important job is creating a pleasant atmosphere for those we love- including ourselves. :)
What a fabulous idea the chalkboard is in the loo, I’m going to do that too. And that rug is divine.
tara
looks so great:)!
ok..the blanket over the back of the sofa – LOVE that!

I totally agree with you. A house should look like it’s lived in. There should be books and magazines on the coffee table, toys on the floor and family pictures all over the house. When I see those things in a person’s home, I know there is a family there along with love.
I love your white couchy thing and that bright blanket draped over it. It just screams “Come cuddle up!” And the red chair is just perfect. A nice punch of color. It’s just a nice, comfortable looking room.
What a great idea….. chalkboard in the bathroom!! :) And LOVE that Pier One blanket. I’ve tried looking for one myself and can’t find one! Darn!
It looks so comfortable. Just need a cup of tea and you’re set!
Hi – I just found your blog — love the pics of your home. That living room looks AMAZING — makes me want to redecorate and paint mine to brighten it up. ;-)
Thanks for sharing…

So weird to not recognize your living room! It DOES look like a magazine! Love how open and fresh it is now! The floor makes a huge difference.
Beautiful home! I love the simplicity – it looks to be your style! If only I could be so simple. :)
Love the last part… because I would hope some other Moms would admit to cleaning up a room before snapping a picture! lol
I LOVE how bright that room is. We are just now about to paint our living room white and I’m so excited. That blanket is so fun! (I LOL at your chalkboard saying ideas… love that)
I love the BRIGHT HAPPY!!!!!
thank you for the honesty in cleaning up !!!! :-)
It looks like a very serene place to be…I just want to curl up on that couch and read all day covered with that cute throw blanket.
That is a happy room ! So bright and cheerful.
gorgeous tara!!!
i really LOVE how you decorate!
thanks for the inspiratioN!
by the way, i wish you would have left it a mess LOL! make me feel better!!! LOL!

Yeah, I need a ‘step away from the ledge lady’ sign – Eric’s talked me off quite a few lately. And I trust your home doesn’t always look like Pottery Barn – I agree with you – hate when I walk in someone’s house and it looks like a time share or something.
Your home is lovely. And great idea for a vintage chalk board : )
I love pictures of your home! Here is my take on the letters above picture frames that you showed awhile ago: http://donna-momof4.blogspot.com/2008/02/wall.html
Your house is beautiful even your chalk board bathroom is cute and lovely..
And tomorrow it can say “beat the kids!”
Beautiful room. I love it.
Colorful throw and super clean house. You rock!
Oooohhh… I love this room. It is so light and peaceful. Lovely.
hehe I think I can vouch for the fact that the Whitney house is definitely LIVED IN. LOL :-P
One of my favorite blankets and I already told you what an awesome idea that chalk board is. Bravo!
I have the pier 1 throw too! Love it! and the shark sweeper, the bomb right???
Cute little room!
i love the peaceful white with the bold, red accents!
I LOVE the antique table, how much did you get it for?! Super jealous, cute room so far:-)
“I lead a fearless life.”, is one of my favorite affirmations. I go through periods when I need to repeat it often and then it seems to work because I really DO lead a fearless life.
I love your chalkboard idea, must keep my eyes open for a cute one like yours!
