so, this place has been boring lately (stretch and yawn…)

just hung that little chalkboard up in my bathroom. i walk past this doorway about a thousand trillion times everyday so i figured it would be a fun little place to put an inspirational message. i think the next one is going to say for a good time, call mckenna 867-5309 or maybe just step away from the ledge lady, step away from the ledge.

i found that little chalkboard at a flea market, and had to repaint it with chalkboard paint (good thing i had that on hand) in order to actually use chalk on it.

little accomplishments like that make me really proud of myself.

kind of referencing this post, im still puttering around my house making things pretty and sweet. this is my view when i walk in my front door now. well, kind of, if you walked in, turned right, and sat down on the ground.

and i cant tell you how many kinds of happy this room makes me.

this room is a work in progress. couch-free hand me down. blue table-lucky antique SCORE. red leather chair-awesome AS IS costco purchase. until we can afford the real deal of what i want in here, this will do just rightly.

but please do know, i cleaned up for this picture.
and please do know, that i have no desire to perpetuate the myth that a room in my house looks like a catalog all day everyday. or SHOULD. no, i think a house should be sweet, neat, pretty, and LIVED IN.

  2. Ok, your disclaimer made me feel better…my house NEVER looks like a magazine & I only have 2 kids! I too am trying to fall in love with my house again – being cooped up in below zero temps in MN can make anyone feel like redecorating! Love love love the throw on the couch!

  3. Cool idea, chalkboard in the bathroom, really great for doodlers killing time. Your color on the bathroom walls I love, love, love. Wish I could be braver with color.

Just to let you know, think your website rocks.

  4. wow, you’ve changed it lots since i was there last. i looks so cozy. and i cannot believe you – a mother of 4 children – are brave enough to have a white couch. that’s just like poking a stick at a snake, man. are you crazy?! lol. i love it!

  5. I love your hardwood floors, and was wondering what brand and type they are. We are in the market for new hardwood, and this looks like just what I want!
    Thanks!

  6. love that room – and the throw.. :) We have a similar sofa from ikea. It was in my studio at our previous house and despite it being cream/pale latte I found it so much easier to live with we got rid of the big suite and went with it in the family room – it is so easy to just wash it.. but it doesnt seem to get dirty often :)

  7. go girl! love all the little touches you are giving your home- it’s a great reminder to me to remember that as moms and homemakers part of our important job is creating a pleasant atmosphere for those we love- including ourselves. :)

  8. I totally agree with you. A house should look like it’s lived in. There should be books and magazines on the coffee table, toys on the floor and family pictures all over the house. When I see those things in a person’s home, I know there is a family there along with love.

I love your white couchy thing and that bright blanket draped over it. It just screams “Come cuddle up!” And the red chair is just perfect. A nice punch of color. It’s just a nice, comfortable looking room.

  9. Love the last part… because I would hope some other Moms would admit to cleaning up a room before snapping a picture! lol

I LOVE how bright that room is. We are just now about to paint our living room white and I’m so excited. That blanket is so fun! (I LOL at your chalkboard saying ideas… love that)

  10. Yeah, I need a ‘step away from the ledge lady’ sign – Eric’s talked me off quite a few lately. And I trust your home doesn’t always look like Pottery Barn – I agree with you – hate when I walk in someone’s house and it looks like a time share or something.

  11. “I lead a fearless life.”, is one of my favorite affirmations. I go through periods when I need to repeat it often and then it seems to work because I really DO lead a fearless life.
I love your chalkboard idea, must keep my eyes open for a cute one like yours!
