i was going through my photo files from 2007 and i was shocked and appalled to find out that i only took 900-ish photos of my family during the entire year. the year before that? 2700-ish. and september 07? yeah, i didnt take even ONE PHOTO OF THEM THE WHOLE ENTIRE MONTH. the only time my camera came out to play in september was for the wonderful people who were paying me to do it.
i was actually pretty devastated to discover this. the reason i take photos is because of THEM. and is part of the reason for the changes this year for me. i want to enjoy my kids and my hobby. taking pictures of them is like bottled happiness for me. i can open the bottle and take a whiff anytime i want. and to not take advantage of that…it kills me.
so changes. i am happy to say, i have started 08 out with a bang. i have lots on top of lots of photos that i have taken around the house and out and about. and now, i even have a session full of shots. of just them. all bottled up and happy just for me.
some of my clients may recognize this alley.
“snuggle up!” i yelled. and i got sweet goodness.
totally playing it cool. killed me.
that is mckenna not handling all of the shenanigans very well. so we broke it up after that and had some fun.
so i just tried to post a comment and i’m not sure if it went through. i’m hoping it didn’t since i spelled the word stalker wrong (i spelled it stocker) how embarrasing! ha!
anyway…i’ve been a blog stalker for a little while and never left a comment. i love the shots of your son in the post above! your work is great!
Very cool pics. :)
love it — need to DO it! :)
I can’t get over how Drew (I hope it’s Drew) looks so long and lean in picture #4. If I was a 10 year old girl, I’d have a crush on him for real.
Beautiful!
ADORABLE!! I totally did the same thing the other day! My 3 year old had not had pictures taken in 6 months– BAD MOMMY!! Well, I took care of it~ Now for Family Pictures!! lol.. these are adorable! :)
I love them. I find myself doing the same thing…. take great shots of other kids and not enough of my own. I try to do better but don’t always do it:)
I am an argentinean children photographer
and mother of three, your blog and your photos are very inspiring and full of love !!!
Congratulations for your beautiful family,
it is not very common to see big familys in the States, right?
Here in Argentina, 3 or 4 kids is the average for a family !!!
Beautiful shots! I love seeing pictures of your kiddos!
**taking pictures of them is like bottled happiness for me.** Couldn’t have been said better.

i can’t tell you how fun it was to see these pictures of the kids! so fun. the snuggle one is my favorite. the picture of you and Kenna melted my heart. so super sweet.
So about a year ago maybe I started checking out your blog bc I love your photography. Today I realized why I’m still coming back daily (ish). You are GOOD people. You just have one of those blogs that I read and think, I hope the things I say make other people feel warm like this. Hope you have a great week.
I love these photos. They hit a soft spot all the way over here in CT. You’re an amazing photographer. These kids have no idea yet how lucky they are to have you as their personal photographer and of course, Mommy!!! Tara you are awesome and I am sending some love all the way from the East Coast! Dee
Holy crow! I didn’t realize how many posts I missed! :) and OH MY GOODNESS, those are some cuuuuute kids. ;)
so much life in these! i love that about you!
Not that I’m good enough, but what you described is exactly the one reason why I decided going into business was not what I wanted to do. Taking photos of my littles is enough for me. I’m glad you’ve made it a goal to shoot more of your family.
darling photos.
These pics are no doubt some of the best you’ve taken, because they’ll mean the most especially to your children in 20 years!
You rock!
