there are two little boys in this great little family who happen to be twins, and also happen to have autism. they are also little brothers to a beautiful and sociable big sister. so fun to chat with. and sons to a mom and dad who are totally into each other still. i had a really nice time letting them guide me around, stealing little moments of their time at the park. it was a beautiful day.

  1. what a great session! i personally prefer the bw vs. of #1. i love the image of the family sitting together.. you can tell there is a lot of love there! they are going to love the last one of their daughter!! so beautiful. :)

  2. OMG…I seriously almost started crying when I saw the picture of the boys holding hands with the quote from the mother about how she knew if they held hands they wouldn’t get lost and always stay together.

You know…I think I like the black and white picture over the color, only because the black and white has a timeless feel to it. That picture could have been taken now or 20 years ago. I love that about pictures.

All these shots are great. You are so talented and such an inspiration. Your pictures make me work harder in my own photography.

  3. I LOVE the bw of the first image. And OMG…the ‘holding hands’…totally gave me goose bumps. What a beautiful session Tara. The boys swinging is great…the last one of the big sister..gorgeous. I think I Love them all!

  4. I love the black and white on this one! The striped shirts really pop and bw looks so cool when there is a lighting contrast like in this pic. It is amazing how pictures can so totally give you a feel for what a person or family is like in real person! You can really feel the love!

  5. I LOVE these photos…next time your heading up to SF I think I wanna book…if I start to save now it might just work! Your photography is amazing…you have such a good eye for bringing out “inner” family connections!! I love it!!!

  6. I do like the black and white, but I think I prefer the color of the first two photos—because the glowing yellow off in the distance where the path leads the eye seems to hint of a great future ahead…

Love the photo of the whole family in front of the painted wall, the Dad looks so comfortable & casual, and everyone seems to be where they want to be….

You nailed this photoshoot. I just did a shoot (I’m amateur) of one my best friends families and their son is autistic. I actually found the words “just be” come out of my mouth and your words clicked in my head. Until then I just thought it was some motto you chose. I now get you on a whole other level. If you’re ever in AZ let me know–I’ll take you to lunch at Pita Jungle. That is if you like pitas.

  8. i say color on the top two and maybe that is because i live here where there is basically one color….brown! LOL I love Golden Gate Park. It is probably second only to Central Park. Love the holding hands and swings pic and love that the mom knows they will stay together if they hold hands. sweetness.

  9. Love the photo in color, just cause the light looks so amazing thru the trees. And your photos are lovely. The one of the sons holding hands, and the beautiful older sister. Great job!

  10. Great photos, Tara. Best I’ve seen from you in awhile….your shots are always great but there is just something about these that I really loved. Have to say that my favorite is the shot of the boys holding hands. LOVE that one, it is just perfect….the lighting, hands perfectly centered, their matching shirts! Just excellent!

    Thanks for sharing, as always!

  11. I arrived here via Sarah Plain and Tall (a friend from college days). Anyway, I’ve enjoyed your work for the past couple of months. I’ve been shooting for around 10 years as a hobby but am in the process of starting my own business. I love your style. Very natural. Very true.

Oh-on the first picture…as much as I love color that one really pops in BW.
