the second the sound goes down, and her hair blows in the wind, and the guitar starts up-i get a feeling so wonderful i cant explain it. i want to laugh, cry, and show everybody. i want to take a bath in this clip. i cant believe i found this tonight. i wasnt even looking for it. i think the first time i saw this it must have connected something in me that has inspired everything creatively i have done since. because i feel like i just found a really old friend.
four things i love: music, photography, words, love.
song: nico-these days
movie: the royal tenenbaums
genius director: wes anderson
perfect voice: gwyneth paltrow
sweaty headband: luke wilson
yessssssssss i love this film.
wes anderson is like charlie kaufmann for most ppl – you either really love him or really hate him. interestingly, i respect wes anderson but don’t love his movies. charlie kaufmann’s films i just simply don’t like….BUT, i love gwyneth in this movie. i love her quirky character and i love the way she plays it. great choice on clip. a perfect piece of filmmaking.

Oh. My. God.
The Royal Tenenebaums is one of my top ten movies. At the end when they show Royal’s head stone, I laugh and cry at the same time. I will see anything Wes Anderson makes and I’m dying to see The Darjeeling Limited. A huge bonus to that movie is it has Adrien Brody in it, and I think he is brilliant.
Great songs, great movie. You’ve got frigging awesome taste. ;)
fav of mine too. I can’t wait to see his new one. I’m like you about the movie “American Beauty”…that last scene in it changed me forever. I LOVE that film and music do that for us humans. I can’t imagine being an animal and not knowing such a thing exists.
thank you. that was perfect.
yea…. this is so good! are you going to see the new one this weeked? i can’t wait! and across the universe… can’t wait for that either.
:) love you.
els
fun post! i haven’t seen that before. i love luke wilson but sweaty headband, beard and long hair on him does nothing for me. i love how you express your feelings belle!
Sweet!!
Gwyenth is perfect in this!!
And I am pretty certain yesterday was her birthday….how cool is that?
That’s exactly how I feel about Garden State. The words, the shots, the music. It’s “home” and “brand new” at the same time, each time I watch it.
I so enjoyed this post! Thanks for sharing what inspires you.
that was so great…thanks…
yes yes yes
i feel the same way and about ALL of wes anderson’s films, musical choices, actors/friends…i think my favorite is probably life aquatic but i own them all – inspiration indeed.
thank you for that lovely description :)
Love, love, love Wes Anderson. LOVE him. His movies are pure genious. “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zisou” is equally wonderful.
Hey! You put the American Beauty scene in check it!! I just watched it this afternoon after posting to you…and cried, again!
That is a movie, along with Magnolia, Rushmore, and Adaptation, that I can literally watch over and over and still be completely moved and inspired. Ok, off to watch that scene again. The music in American Beauty too, really gets to me.
I hear ya sister. I have never seen that movie, but have experienced the same thing, my big one was Moulin Rouge. I was utterly mesmerized. Oh and the song These Days is good, but I still vote for the Jackson Browne version. I went to see baby Finley,I almost ate her for dinner. I LOVED your photo of Anna and Bowie. Your photos are mesmerizing. You Rock.
love this movie, love wes anderson-this one, rushmore & bottlecap are my favorites. i adore movies. you can’t deny the awesomeness of the perfect movie scene like this one-just the right image, the right music, the right sentiment. when your heart aches at the sight and sound of it, there is nothing better.
thanks for posting!
i adore this movie..and this scene inparticular.
sigh.
Okay, now I know you are a great person! This is the best movie! I can’t wait for The Darjeeling Limited…(Wes Anderson’s new film) apparently there is a “overture” film short to it called Hotel Chevalier (spelling) available on the internet…
it’s go to feel good to be reacquainted with an old friend. I too loved this scene.
I agree completely.
Its actually frightening me how much our reactions to this moment in one of the best movies ever is exactly the same.
My heart swells up for a second there at the start, and feels like it will burst, and then it resumes beating with renewed happiness.
Cheers to this clip.
p.s. I realize this post was from a WHILE ago…however i like to play a game on occasion where I go into an archive, and just pick a month….it keeps it interesting :)
