party of seven

i loved hanging out with this family. when i called to check in, i could tell mom was pretty stressed. she mentioned getting five kids ready and i was like oh boy-this is going to be insane.

i was so shocked to walk in and meet the five most adorable and sweet kids ever! i know from experience that when you have a lot of kids in one house it becomes a mob mentality and you just have to hold on for the ride. but these kids were great together and seperate-and they all seemed to have fun doing the shoot.

thanks guys!

  1. what a sweet sweet familY!
i think the part i like best about photograghing people in their own home rather than the other settings, is the deep connection you get on the print when you get to see their world and actually become a part of it! even more so than usual. love the bike one and the table one best!!! so real everyday!!!
    awesome job t.

  2. holy cow…these are incredible! I love all your photos, but I think you did an exceptional job on these! Love the bike shot (were you on the ground for that one?) and the family all scrunched together in b&w…just B.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l.!!!!!

  3. I could just copy Kim’s post above. The dog under the tramp is perfect and I LOVE the last family picture! I bet they are so happy with these!

  4. Dang, woman!!! You rock!!! I’m pretty sure you deserve those new lenses ;) Love the chair one and the family one… I can’t decide which I like better!!!

btw- I finished another scrapbook- Ill take pictures of it tomorrow and share!!! :)

  5. Another brilliant capture. Love them all. Love Mum and Dad hiding in moungst the garden for a quiet minute. (probably the case..LOL) and of course the trampoline. .. and the single shots.. gorgeous… and the last group one. ohhhhhh That will be soooo treasured.

  6. I never post, but always lurk . . .

These are so fun! I loved them!

Britt mentioned you got new lenses? Please share!!!! You used to put all that stuff out there and I miss that.

    What new lenses? What settings?

    Beautiful work, as always!

  7. You take amazing photos! I love the single shots of the kids and the heads of everyone shot! Too bad I live so far away (Hawaii). We have 4 kids and are in desperate need of some family photos – I love how you just go and hang out at their houses – so great and much better photos that way!

  8. Tara – you can give every photographer your exact equipment, the same photoshop tweaks, even the same subjects but they can’t touch you! It’s YOU who gets these expressions and creates the compositions. That’s what I respect the most about your work/style. Man I hope God’s plan for me in photography will include getting these kinds of connections. You continue to inspire and I will continue my pursuit. Thanks

  9. i LOVE this shoot. i love the chair one with the chair in the background, the one with the whole family sitting around the table with the sign up above the doors and the doors open…the last family photo…your imagination and creativity seem so endless. you must get so giddy while going through your shoots and seeing the end product.
this family is SO beautiful. wonderful job capturing the love.

  10. Wow! Those shots make me want to have 5 kids…what is up with that?!!!

No doubt these photos will bring laughter and memories to this adorable family for many, many years to come…amazing!!

  11. OMGosh! that last image…amazing…love that b/w…perfect! & your dof is always nailed…NAILED! as shallow as possible, but all the eyes are crispy..how do you do it!?

(note to self) when building house design area for circle table over-looking beautiful light & greenery outside of french doors…your brilliant to have seen the potential & catch it!

  12. gREAT as always!!
Hey..in the pic w/ the girls on the bed in their bedroom…did you look at that artwork in the background? Is that lots of different fabrics put on a board or something? It would totally be something fun I could make for my dd room…please tell me!!
    thanks
