hey bay area internet

i have already gotten advice to hit flax art and blick art materials. but i would love to find another cool paper/journaly/cool stuff place to spend money at.

or ANY cool shops, period. little places i wouldnt know about unless i lived here? im in the city with birthday money and time on my side. tell me what to do!!! :)

thanks for all the birthday wishes. its official. im (shhhhh) 3-0.

oh and check this out-im a little hyped up and goofy right now-forgive me. this morning i was waiting outside my hotel for a ride and someone comes out the building across the street and walks up to me. she introduces herself and says she recognized me from 2peas and couldnt believe she was seeing me outside her window. how totally crazy and random is that? such a small world. hi janet!!

oh-AND emily organized this amazing little memory book for me-with letters and beautiful things all put together from my friends and family. i pored over it forever this morning and have looked at it about 50,000 times since. i will definitely have to show it off when i get home. thank you everyone who made something for me!

i am having the best birthday. i think i will have to come up to san fran every year from here on out.

okay, so lay it on me. hook me UP internet!

  1. :)

    Hope you’re having a great time! It was great to meet you and I’ll look forward to seeing where you and your birthday dollars shop!

  2. Happy freaken birthday. You are so young. Enjoy it! I still remember one of the best things I ever got for a birthday. You brought me over a nice cold Hawaiian Punch from a soda fountain. Thank you again, a gazillion years later.

  3. RIGHT next door to Flax is the best foodie place ever – DeLessio. Check it out. It’s like a perfect food museum. I’ll think of more and email later. Oh! and if you’re at Flax (& DeLessio) you’re close to Hayes Valley. Just walk up Hayes (@Franklin Street) – so many great shops. enjoy!

  4. Have to say that My Daughter’s Wish is a great place..it is at 1475 North Broadway in Walnut Creek …..tons of wonderful shops in the area…very cool place…and I think you would love it!
    If you go, be sure to contact Sheri,(the owner) as she would love to make you feel at home!

    Enjoy!!

    I spent my 30th at the “del”…in CA…and have wonderful memories…I wish the same for you! :)

  5. While they don’t sell paper, a shopping trip to Sumbody on Union Street is a must while in SF. I live in Florida and have it shipped to me regularly. They sell the most divine natural body products and give out plenty of free samples for you to try. My favorite is the citrus splash salt scrub.

    Happy Birthday and welcome to an awesome decade!

  6. HaPPy BiRthDay Miss T!!!! Have fun in beautiful SF… Most has been said here, but I LOve Bellochio (sp)-near Flax I think, Tail of the Yak and Addison Endpapers (Oakland?), there was a cute store called Prize a few years ago, I’d want to find Castle in the Air too…xo

  7. Taylor’s Automatic Refresher at the Ferry Building Marketplace for lunch. Excellent burgers and salads. Slanted Door to go for lunch if you like Vietnamese, and there’s a very charming little bakery there in the Ferry Building as well. In the Mission, you HAVE to go to Tartine’s for breakfast or lunch or a snack. OMG, love Tartine’s. Paper Source is a must, as is all of Fillmore Street. (Shabby Chic store, Eileen Fisher boutique, bookstores, etc.) And Timeless Treasures is just a few short blocks away from Paper Source. The owner, Joan, is a wonderful woman. She has excellent junque.

    On Market Street, at around 12th, you HAVE to go to Bell Occhio. It’s a totally seedy walk, but it’s worth getting there. Avoid the famed Zuni Cafe, which is just a few blocks down on Market, because the food is totally overrated. If you can get to Berkeley for lunch, go to the cafe at Chez Panisse–expensive, but very worth it.

  8. Flax art is the best in the city…but if your are adventerous please go to Berkeley and go to University ARt….enjoy being 30…just so you know 40 is even better!

    for sure…martha gets it there too! (it’s by flax…and just down the street from flax…on market…is this enormous antique store…forgot the name, tell them you are looking for props for a photoshoot and they will let you see behind the closed doors…it’s another world in there! (movie productions use them etc.)

    { william stout architectural books }
    a must…fab books and make sure you go downstairs…

    { arch }
    a couple blocks south of william stout on jackson street you must go into great art supply store with great stuff. straight down jackson to “macArthur park”…the best ceasar salad at “macArthur park” the restaurant…the best ‘vegetarian’ sandwich is at “Massimo’s” (only another block south of MacPark)..grilled with eggplant, zucchini and the best sauce they put on that thing! awesome…oh, i miss that.

    { stinson beach }
