the falconbridge’s came with us for a few days. they may as well just move in with us now. they are a part of the family. the little girls had so much time together and they are like little whispering pixies everywhere they go.

while we drove home i told jeff that i want to retire in baja, and sleep with our doors wide open so we can hear the ocean. and buy homemade tamales off of the old mexican women who come through our town. and the locals will know us and call us the crazy gringos. and our kids will come down and see us and we will spoil our grandchildren with mariachi puppets and bobble head dragons and little purses and wooden snakes.

and eat lobster, beans, rice, and guacamole every. darn. day.

  1. Glad you made it home safely Tara. I love the photos, as usual, the one of Anna in her suit towards the top is very cool. I’m glad you guys had a great time. Your idea of retirement sounds great to me!

  2. last night, i was thinking how much i miss Baja and like you said…eating lotsa lobster & carne asada and drinking more margaritas than is humanly possible.

  5. I LOVE Mexico! My parents lived in Mexico for a year in Xalapa, the capital of the state of Veracruz. The town is in a beautiful tropical/jungly area on the side of an extinct volcano. The housepaint there is so colorful – saturated eye candy all around!!!

Your kids fit right in to that colorful landscape, McKenna looks especially sweet in her red dress. :o)

  6. Hola Tara! bienvenida! I’ve been checking your blog out everyday to see if you guys were back! You have me in tears here with those beautiful pictures! Isn’t Mexico a great country?. I LOVE how you captured the colors and richness of the town! I see you guys ate great! Tamales are the best!
Ana and McKenna look just perfect with those mexican clothes! I am so excited that you loved my country, my food, my culture and all those wonderful colors. Did I mention I am homesick? but I will be going to Mexico City next week yupeeee! After you guys left I found out that a very dear firnd of mine moved to Cabo San Lucas and he told me next time some of my frinds go there he will be more than glad to show them all those not so touristic places. So if you plan to go back down there let me know!
I wish you could share more pictures with me, the ones with the arches and the palapas in the beach have me in tears. I love the one of the salsas, Did you tried salsa bufalo? that one is good with chips and oh! did you have the chance to try cacahuates japoneses?
I am glad you are back! Missed your blog!

  9. Tara,
Well, you’ve inspired the bohemian spirit in us! I showed my husband your blog this morning and we’ve decided to head out in about 2 hours and make our way to Mexico! We’ve never been but have always talked about it! I should be about a 5 hour drive from Scottsdale! We don’t even have reservations but we’re flying by the seat of our pants! Hope we have fun and thanks for the inspiration!

  10. we stayed in rosarito, in a place called las gaviotas. a rental community. some people live there, but most of them are owned by americans and rented out as vacation homes.

    es muy perfecta!

i highly recommend mexico for a cheap family vacation. a lot of people are scared to go down there and i dont really know why. everyone is totally totally friendly and the liquor is cheap! LOL
