an excerpt from drew’s third grade writing journal.

“love is the presidents. love is video games when i play it. love is gameboy advance. love is playing my nintendo DS. love is me having friendship. love is reading a book. love is hearing the best song. love is reading books to my sisters and brother. love is my mom when she hugs me. love is my dad for keeping my mom home to take care of us. love is learning from my teacher.”

he doodled hearts all around the edges.

  1. Tara..that is just sooo precious. i just showed it to my lyndsey…she wull be a 2nd grader very soon….she also LOVES to read and thinks drew is a good writer…{and VERY cute!}…hehe!!

  2. GO little guy GO! Tara.. Let him quit school and move on to more interesting things (well maybe after he learns to read and add up ;)… The boy has the big things worked out already.

Love is – what you have taught him. He knows these things because you taught them to him. Yay for you.

and all of those SAHMs out there wondering if they are on the right track..looks like you could be.. looks like kids value that.
    Makes me ponder working.

  3. awwww! Love the “love is my dad for keeping my mom home to take care of us.” He sees BOTH roles – not just yours for being home, but his Dad’s for supporting, and encouraging, that bond/opportunity! so cool!

  4. I love how he put all his games before mom and dad, lol. I was giggling as he continued on with Gameboy…Nintendo. I guess we know what his first true love is, ha, ha. I love that they are getting him to keep a writing journal! Great kid, great school, great love all around. He so reminds me of my late brother every time I see his picture. Sweet, sweet boy you got there…some girl is gonna be real lucky one day to catch him.

  5. Super sweet and so passionate, too. What a cutie, and so smart…never forget to give the one grading your assignments a mention…although I honestly believe he does love learning from his teachers. Obviously, you’re doing right by him!

  6. Beautiful posts lately! Well, actually, they are all beautiful in their own way. If you ever stop blogging I don’t know what we’ll do. Thank you for taking the time to share with us.
    So inspiring.
    So heartwarming.
    So cool in every way.
    Enjoy every moment with them.

  7. you’ve done well for yourselves as parents….he gets it (what it is to love and be loved)…and that is the biggest compliment i can give to another parent…you’ve made his cup overflow…isn’t that what we all wish for our babes? :)

  8. Thats awesome.. and so sweet.. My oldest in in the hospital his appendix burst and he is quite sick.. anyway.. reading this made me think of him and the stuff he loves.. and that I saw you and one of your dear friends whose name I cant recall because I am going on fumes here and dont remember too much of what I did yesterday to be honest.. but I had stopped at a store to pick up some stuff before going up to the hospital and was flipping through a scrapbooking magazine and was delighted to see you and your friend grace several of the pages.. what a treat.. and how awesome for you.

  9. It’s great to know that your kid’s cup spillith over, it is awesome that he has grown up in a household where he is taught what love is and can recognize it so freely, give yourself a pat on the back, girlie!WONDERFUL!

  10. Definitely a scrappy moment… :)

How sweet. This is what being a mom is all about.

I especially love the part about how love is my dad for keeping my mom home to take care of us.

(It is so awesome that he recognizes this at his age. I can only hope that my children realize the sacrifices we make for their sake as well.)

    Have a great day Tara!

  11. tara, that is the most precious thing I have ever read! I can’t wait until my little girls are big enough to write like that! Things like that make it all worth it!:)

  12. that totally rocks! love is my dad keeping my mom home to take care of us!! <--that is some major insight :o) if only more adults 'got' it! you can only be pouring over with love & proudness for this little dude!

  13. How sweet…
He sounds like such a wonderful and appreciative boy. It’s obvious that you and your husband are doing a terrific job!
(But tell him that moms who work outside the home love their kids, too…)

  14. Tara, I have 4 girls ages 3,5,7 & 9. Occasionally I pray for the boys (and their mom’s raising them) that will grow up to be the men that will marry my daughters. (strange. yes. maybe). They are out their somewhere growing up and learning stuff. It touched my heart to see your little 3rd grade son with such an insightful, tender and grateful heart. I hope that there are more little boys being raised this way out there. Someday my girls will need boys like this. So happy. Heather H.
