met up with the kelly’s this weekend at the wilderness park near my home. they drove all the way from simi valley for the shoot. i had such a good time with them (i feel like i always say that-i get so lucky!) they reminded me a lot of my own family in the way they interacted in a teasing laughing way. i loved it.

the oldest was a tough egg to crack-i brought out the best of my wit and humor and sarcasm and teasing and still he wasnt impressed. haha not even when we discovered our music tastes were the same did he love me more. so mom and i did our best. :)

sweet girlie in the middle who was so willing to do whatever i asked. gorgeous eyes and smile.

and sweet boylie at the end. who i learned at the shoot was autistic. i immediately felt bonded to him. he reminded me in so many ways of mckenna. i loved seeing how the family interacted with him-that too reminded me of my own family. how they got him to laugh. how they all watched over him. i resorted to my now infamous "fart" tactic to get him to like me…

and mom and dad-full of life. full of love. really cool. they are moving out of state this summer. i wish them the best. they deserve it!

  1. Oh my goodness Tara. These are wonderful. I was trying to decide which of these are my favorite. Whatever. They are all so great. I really like the photo of “mom & dads” hands. That is something they can look back on in 30 years and totally cherish.

  2. i dont want everyone to think the oldest was rude or anything…he just wasnt “into” it. he is a great kid though. loved him. he was doing this for momma, and i respect that.

i was joking mostly, trying to make myself look cool while talking about my wit and humor! lol

  3. We had such a cool time on this shoot! I’ll never forget the walk through the stickery plants, the hike up to the top of the stairs to see what was up there, and Tara handing over her jacket for my little one who was getting sick. My oldest is a tough nut when it comes to pictures. that’s one of the reason’s I hired out ;) That’s a 13yo boy for ya. But she totally captured ‘him’. Every shot is is exactly what it should be and I’d much rather have these treasures than a stiff pose in a studio. Anyway, in the end he had a good timed!:) I love these so much and can’t wait to see the rest.
Tara – have i told you that YOU ROCK!!!!!??????

  4. Tara – you continue to inspire me! I love the shots of the hands and the father and daughter. I wish you lived closer to me – I would hire you to photgraph my little family in a heartbeat, I don’t like having my photo taken, but feel you would somehow capture me the way I see me! Keep up the great work. I think you need to do that class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. I would take it just to learn your secrets to great shots!

  5. Tara,
    Amazing as usual!

The pictures of the younger one sucking his thumb and having the other hand touching the parent gave me chills chills chills.

I have many photos of my baby doing that exact same thing. I just wish you would have captured it instead of me!!

Also, the picture yesterday that Anna took. Unbelievable. Precious.

  6. love the photos of the boys – to me it’s always harder to get good photos of the guys because they always put up their facades! but you did a wonderful job and i SO love the little boyo’s pictures, especially with him, the thumb & Dad – total security blankets!

  7. Can I tell you how much I LOVE your photographs? I never pass up an opportunity to view your albums. In this particular shoot, your pictures of the youngest child are absolutely stunning. You rock!

  8. Hi,
a friend gave me your website and I just love your style. I have wanted to do shots like that instead of the posed cause it just says so much about the person. Esp the family ones, it shows the relationship with each other. You must have some great people skills. I used to live in simi valley, now in maine and i am always checking the others sites. Thanks for the inspiration.

you seem to always capture the loving spirit of the families. I love that!!
i really love the fact that you would be wiling to do fart noises. my kids would go bonkers over that.
