i have a shoot tomorrow at the beach and there is a 44% chance of rain. this person is from goergia, so i cant really reschedule. i need to think of a backup plan. a place we can go that will be nice and give me light, but also cover.
any ideas from you orange county readers????? i have a few-but wanted to see if there were any i hadnt thought of from people who have lived here longer than i.
i am thinking even an outdoor mall might work…i am open for kooky suggestions. :)
Hi! Racking my brain…how about a hotel/resort…like the Montage in Laguna or Hyatt or Waterfront Hilton in HB…lots of arched covered walkways outside & windows facing the ocean in the ballrooms?
I thought of the same thing. Some nice hotel at the beach where you can have the best of both worlds, little beach and a little cover. Just in case…
thanks you guys. we were meeting at montage-i have never shot at a hotel before, can you just walk around the grounds like you own the joint??? ;)
What about Las Brisas in Laguna Beach…it’s gorgeous. Or the Ritz – but I would call them first. Or Fashion Island is pretty, and it has covered areas. This sounds funny, but even in the Cheesecake factory would look kind of cool.
fashion island definitely has some cool spots. It was my first thought.
have you ever been to “the lab” in Costa Mesa. It is an inside out mall…an outdoor mall. but the stuff there is super cool! the people there are kind of borderline edgy, so I don’t know what your clients are like, but it is a very cool place!!!
Here is the website:

Yea, just cruise around & if the ballrms are locked you can just ask someone to show you. Hopefully, it won’t rain!! Can’t wait to see your magic!
Hi Tara – how about the Grove – it is a littler further then the OC, but totally worth it. They have a gorgeous fountain there that is by the same guy who did the one at the Las Vegas Mirage – incredible. Plus there is the Farmers Market there too, which is really great – cool setting. Have fun!
If you’re shooting somewhere you’re not supposed to, simply act like you’re supposed to be there and smile at the security guards. It’s worked wonders for me…
oh i hope you find a spot! but just remember at the 2peas crop you barely had a nice spot to work with and you did wonders with the girl who won the shoot with you! good luck! can’t wait to see!

I know it’s not Orange County, but the Getty Center would be an amazing place for a photo shoot.
you’ve probably already left, but i was going to suggest irvine spectrum. the carousel would be cool.
also second fashion island, inside cheesecake factory would also be pretty neat.
The Getty would be INCREDIBLE! Quite a drive from south OC, but worth it I would think, for something unusual.
Come to the beach today – it is absolutely gorgeous and no sign of rain. It rained last night, so everything is bright and there are big beautiful clouds in the sky. The ocean is crystal clear and dark blue – the perfect day for photography! Suzy
thank you so much for your input!
everything went perfectly. started to rain just as we were finishing up. and for any of you that know kelli crowe, it was her and her family! :)
Woohoo Kelly!! Lucky girl- I can’t wait to see these. Can yo post a few Tara, pretty please? :)
I sooo knew it must be Kelli Crowe when you said she was from Georgia! Oooo, can’t wait to see these! Such a lucky girl!
Inside the Cheesecake Factory would be rad.
Glad to hear everything went so well!
I am so jealous you met Kelli! :)
I can’t wait to see the proofs. I know they will be amazing!!

How I wish, looking at your photo’s you were from our knack of the woods….maybe soon?!?
I will be the first to kick off my flip flops for you, with my husband and daugther – South Africa.
Hey- Just wanted to tell you that I loved all of your layouts in the new Simple Scrapbooks Design Book. I was looking at it at Barnes and Noble last night. You did an awesome job- just wanted you to know! Happy Monday!
Kelli Kelli Kelli – I just put this together when I read Kel’s blog today. LUCKY GIRL ! ! !
In SJC, the Los Rios district would be an amazing backdrop for a photoshoot or the Mission SJC would be cool with all the distressed surfaces.
Hi Tara,
This is too late to help you now, but I’m from North Orange County, and there’s a beautiful museum/old home in Fullerton called The Muckenthaler that is well lit inside. (I’m sure you’d obviously have to get permission to do it inside since it’s a museum.) I love shooting outside it though. It’s a great place for Christmas card shots, in my opinion.
Just a thought if you ever need someplace again!(: Feel free to ask if you ever need directions.
