Ooooh Tara!! You KNOW I love your stuff, thank you for what you said. Your stuff is unique and its always so refreshing to see.
Tara – Would you mind posting the specs on your 28-105 lense? I am looking for a good mid-range zoom lens and am not sure what I should get. Canon has two lenses at 28-105…could you tell us which one is yours?
Canon EF 28-105mm f/4-5.6 USM or
Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM
Your work is amazing…thanks for sharing it with us.
Susan
Tara,
These photos are amazing. You truly have a gift.

so, so jealous of people who live near you who get to have you do these photo shoots for them! :-)
OH, MY GOSH! I just got directed here from a friend. I am totally in love with these pictures. Each one of these photos is awesome. I am with Jen, I wish I lived near where you are to get a session. When you come to Montana, I need to know!

OK I am doing the happy dance now! I am due in two weeks and you share all of these beautiful photos to get inspiration from. I am starting to panic about getting ones with me in it but it is great I have some that DH can try and copy. TFS
susan-i have the first one.
Taras work is wonderful isnt it. Not only because she is one of many photographers out there who have a commercial edge to their portrait photography but because she clearly has an eye. Her look is wonderful and Im a big fan coz we DO have similar styles..we both add a commerical feel to our work. Anyway, I just wanted to say that yea, having children jumping on beds is a common thing that portrait photographers do because its fun, and it really gets the kids being themselves. =) But, no matter how many different photographers sites you visit and no matter how much bed jumping you see there is always the artists own twist to it. Our own touch, because its ALWAYS been done before, by someone in the world.
The blurry forground/background thing (parents out of focus) is something called depth of field which is commanly used by photographers.
I thought those of you on here who enjoy Tara’s work might enjoy this site http://creative.gettyimages.com/source/classes/FrameSet.aspx?pk=5&masterID=jk3564-001&source=front&lightboxView=1&returnUrl=frontdoor/DefaultRMImages.aspx?brandID=1
Its where some of the worlds greatest commercial photographers put their stock. And youll see loads of life…loads of jumping and loads of love. And maybe stuff thats on both mine and Tara’s sites too (like a baby on a couch..or a baby out of focus). But hopefully youll see what I mean about how people from all round the world can take the same kinda shot, but its always got the artist own feel even though hundreds of people are doing the same thing.
And last but not least..those of you who are into photography… never look over your shoulder.. Create. Create. Create and enjoy!!
My fav saying is “Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.C. S. Lewis”
Sorry to drone on. I felt for poor Tara, and as for me..well Tara..you heart in the sand is a lovely idea.. Ill be sure to try it with my next family session on the beach ;) With my own twist..of course!
Oh sorry the link doesnt work..well it does but it leads to a child behind a tree. Sroll down on that page and click on “children only”.
jinky, barb….you are a love. :)
you have such a special touch with color and light. and you have an incredibly clever eye-you amaze me when you take some generic home-thing and make it look cool and artsy. you are definitely an inspiration to me
because you helped me to see that my own vision for shooting families in a different, non traditional way could be achieved. and i love seeing another photographer who enjoys the fun details like i do, and see how she captures them.
so thanks for that. :)
awesome images on that site-lots of inspiration there.
without coming off like too much of a dork: i just have to say too that i am FLATTERED to be compared to you. :)
BEAUTFIFUL work, Tara…. just amazing. As always. :) You are such an inspiration to us all!
Beautiful, just beautiful! You’re one amazing chick!
Tara, YOU rock my dear! I love the entire showcase!! The lighting is GORGEOUS!!
Jinky rocks too and said it well, we all have our own “eye” to apply to whatever inspiration we get. I’m so glad to have you and other great photographers to inspire me all the time!
:-)
Tara – your photography is truly amazing. I swear, I can go through your photos and get choked up/teary – they are so beautiful and so…evocative. Your talent is both staggering and uplifting. Wow!
How in the world do you choose a favorite? I think I wrote that same question on your last photo shoot post :)
I LOVE the one with the baby in focus and the family not. Also the big brother laying down with baby. TOO sweet!
Tara…as always amazing in every meaning of the word…great photos…..

Okay…coolest quote ever! I’ve long felt the exact same way about design! If your goal is to tell the truth, and communicate that truth, what results can mirror trend, but always has a personal stamp on it.
It’s interesting. I could try to take shots like Tara all day long, but in the end, they just wouldn’t be “there.”
T…you know I’m a fan. That’s how we became friends in the first place!
love ya!
Wow these are great. You continue to inspire me. As Jinky (Barb) has with her work. You are both incredible artists/photographers! Wow. I can only hope to get remotely close to what you each achieve in you work!
thanks so much everyone. i cant believe this post got so many comments!!
I love your photography. So lovely! Amazing! I wish you could have taken some shots of my DD…
That photo is amazing, wow. You are the best, just the best!
