My top shot has a tilted horizon. I could have fixed that in Photoshop, but I thought it added to the quirkiness, which I love. This is one of those times where I decide to go with what I love over what is the norm. That photo is my latest in between, and I also loved the boys running off to the side and the way the reds and yellows really stood out. It is one of my favorites, now, but I think I say that about all of them.
Another family on vacation from Canada, and I took them all around Balboa beach. Julie’s family was one crazy fun bunch – similar in energy to my own four – so I fit right in. No one knows crazy until you’ve been at my house right before dinner.
If you want to see more images from this session, Julie posted some on her blog.
Thanks again, Julie.

As always, I’m in love with your family photography – maybe someday for my clan…
shots on her blog with her words are a true testament of your talent. i love the b&w of mom and boys. life is awesome tilted.
So fun!! I didn’t expect to see this when I came to check your blog out…..Julie and I attended a workshop in Seattle where you were the secret guest & is where we met…..and I’ll get to see her again in CA at a retreat….we just realized it. Small world. I’m incredibly envious that they were photographed by you. Such a lucky family :) These are beautiful, Tara.
Love the shot of mom and son. Gah. Love.
Wow these are spectacular. Such treasures. Someday I need a family session with you!
tilted, smilted. Who cares. :) I think it’s more authentic to the moment of where you were in place and time and how you captured the moment. REAL is better. IMO. xoxo
Love, love, love the final image. You make me want to be better at what I do. Such a storyteller you are.
oh tara! Thank you. My house is a better place because of what you’ve given us. I will have to take some pictures and show you how I’ve displayed your art. My husband tells me that if he had to produce a picture that expressed love, he would show the one of me and heath. Thanks again! xoxo
these are really touching tara, I love them!

Lovely! And, why, oh, why couldn’t it have been warm on the beach for our session? Beautiful images of a rad family.
I needed some Tara photo goodness today. Thanks : )
I am always looking forward to your next blog post. so inspiring!!
The mother/son picture took my breath away. Wow.
I’m loving your quirky style – even more so lately. You seem to really be capturing the lives of these families. LOVE!
Beautiful pictures – like always!
I’ve been noticing lately that I am often getting the perspective off. Later when I’m editing I notice that a door frame doesn’t line up parallel with the edge of the picture or the line of a floor isn’t parallel to the bottom of the picture. How much do these things bother you? I’ve been second guessing myself as to whether I should be fixing it or not.
That photo of mom kissing her little boy took my breath away. So very sweet. Beautiful as always Tara!
So fun to see these cute familiar little faces posted here. The pics are perfect. I LOVE the b/w one of Julie with Heath. A captured moment like that is so genuine and real. You can see the love he has for his mama in his little face! And of course, Julie is a gorgeous shot no matter what she’s doing!
Love big bands of boys. I need a couple more to get to that level, but it’s a goal. Thanks for the lovely images . . .
The second last picture of Julie with her son made me cry at my desk at work. And I don’t even know them. So beautiful.
Not sure what you mean by ’tilted horizon’, but I love the photos! All the photos I’ve seen you take are fantastic. Course you already knew that ;)
I am always waiting to see what you will post next. You always amaze me… but that picture of the mom with her son in BW is so real and perfect and moving. I have never posted to your site before but felt that today I needed to tell you how much that picture spoke to me of love and what it means to be a mother. You captured that silent powerful communication between a mother and her child. Perfection. Thank you.
Julie is one of my favorite people, and you captured their family so well. Love the images!
I love your fun non posy pictures. I feel real emotion when I look at your work. What a cute family. I love looking at your blog and seeing all the fun you have through your pictures.
beautiful shots!
Tara! that image of the mom kissing her son, it is so priceless! What a beautiful moment of love!! = )
yes, i think it would be ruined if you would have fixed it. sometimes it’s best to just let it be. fun shots as always :) xo
so perfectly captured, so perfectly perfect! seriously, i need to pop out some babies and fast forward a few years so i can have you photograph them. :)
So fun! Love each and every one!
No to mention, the sand line balances it out.
Great work – love the mom kiss shot…
What an adorable family!! The second from the last is amazing!!
What a very beautiful family! I love the joy I feel in their shoot. Sensational : )
Hi Tara – So I’m just a random blog admirer of your beautiful photos. So inspired was I, that this year we are attempting your 6 people / 12 times project, although in our case it’s just the five of us! Wish us luck…
