anna has been quite befuddled lately, about the moon.
she doesnt quite grasp how we revolve around IT, and yet IT always seems to be moving. edited-okay obviously i would lose the gameshow “are you smarter than a fifth grader”? i have told her that we revolve around the moon, but actually we are both revolving around each other.
so out of the blue today she says, “mom, im not even going to look at the moon anymore, if its FAKE.”
and i said, “what makes you think the moon is fake?”
“well,” she puts both hands in the air and pumps her fists, “There HAS to be a FAKE one that follows our car at night!”
btw-i wont be home this weekend-any client inquiries or emails will be answered on monday.
Tara, the Earth revolves around the Sun and the Moon revolves around the Earth. Not that it will help Anna, but I just thought you should know :)
i love the way these little people think.
toocute!
tara
i just noticed you have two favorite DM songs on your sidebar that i have been watching on Youtube. i remember you called me when you were at the DM concert when martin gore was singing “home”. couldn’t hear you, but i could hear him. LOL
Actually we revolve around each other… the moon and earth that is. It’s a wonderful dance in the middle of nowhere :P
I used to wonder why it stayed in one spot, I can see where she’s coming from. I wish I was creative enough to think up “fake” when I was a wee lad.
Tara,
The earth does not revolve around the moon. The earth and moon revolve around the sun. The moon revolves around the earth. Just thought you should know.

No, the moon revolves around the earth. Here is an explanation for you:
http://www.nmm.ac.uk/server/show/nav.3123
From NASA’s website:
“The moon moves in a variety of ways. For example, it rotates on its axis, an imaginary line that connects its poles. The moon also orbits Earth. Different amounts of the moon’s lighted side become visible in phases because of the moon’s orbit around Earth. During events called eclipses, the moon is positioned in line with Earth and the sun. A slight motion called libration enables us to see about 59 percent of the moon’s surface at different times.”
HAHAHA
all of these conflicting pieces of knowledge.
thank you for kind of? clearing it up.
ill have to ask drew today what the deal is. ;)
So cute – “fake moon following us”- I love it!
bet you didn’t think you were gonna get schooled on astronomy today! :)
That’s ok…some days the 5th graders win.
Loving the pix.
Oh my gosh. That is so CUTE!
when I was that age, no amount of explaining could convince me that the moon wasn’t moving and following me as well…
Our niece’s fascination with the moon is one of our favorite memories of her from toddlerhood. She’d run around the house, from window to window, looking for it and exclaiming “MOON!”. Definitely inspired by Bear in the Big Blue House, but it was so cool to see her just starting at it in awe.
Kids are so funny. I love this shot!
She is too cute!
Too cute!! I LOVE your blog header – it’s so beautiful and fun. I found your blog from ‘The Creative Blog’.
i LOVE the little people brain. that sounds right to me…fake moon…yeah, it totally makes sense. :) i love that girl!
Ha! Too darn cute! Loved that.
Here’s an explanation of how the earth and moon rotate around each other. The stuff posted previous is just scratching the surface.

LOL, too funny! When my ds was 2 and saw a crescent moon for the first time, he looked up, pointed and asked ‘who ripped it?’ kids are awesome!;o) Took a pic recently of my dd like that in the slide only I was up at the top and she was climbing up the slide toward me-kinda cool. Anyhoo, great shot! :o)
Hi Tara! I´m in love… I´m in love with your awesome photos for the first ;o) The light in them and the very cool angles. And I´m in love with your way of telling the everyday stories from your life. I laugh, I giggle, I sigh, I almost cry sometimes ;o) The combination of photos and the everyday stories makes me come back, again and again. Thanks for sharing!

Teeheee… when I was a kid I thought it was magical that the moon followed me around in the car.. I thought it was following just me..
There’s a DMB song off the Busted Stuff album, called You Never Know:
So much space to believe
Funny when you’re small
The moon follows the car
There’s no one but you see
Hey the moon is chasing me
I always thought those lyrics were cool. Thanks for sharing this story.
