the banner family

thanks for all the compliments on the new banner-that was an idea i had while at the seattle center with one of my seattle families, the sewells. mom is shannon sewell, photographer and hottie boombalottie extraordinaire.

shannon’s photography style is so inspiring to me-she finds things-and turns them into a session. a hat, a stool, a location, a pair of boots…or a dress….

when shannon linked me to the dress she wanted to get for our session i emailed back YES YES YES. love that she wanted to do something funky, different from my typical family session. makes me want to do something like this again soon.

i also added a new sidebar item “in my bag”. i tend to get at least one or two emails a week asking what equipment i use, etc…i dont know why i didnt do it sooner!

  1. I guess I have to come out of hiding for this one. I am Shannon’s friend and I just heard that I finally get to meet you in San Diego in October. I am so stoked to get together! Oh, and these shots…they make me happy, they make me laugh, and they just plain rock! Kathy

  2. Look at these guys!! I think I was technically Shannon’s first client, so, needless to say, I know her. I tell her how cute her kids are and that that they are just the most beautiful family. But, wow. How hot are they here?!? I loved your session with them in CA, but this one blows away that one. I don’t think I’m being biased, but this is one of your most innovative, creative sessions I’ve seen. It’s really the ultimate contrast: the gorgeous family at the seedy carnival.

  3. WOW!! seriously… WOW! I totally want to follow you around for a day, a week, a month! Hey, that should be your next big thing… “follow tara around for a day”!!! jk.. but seriously, you’re so inspiring. As a mom to a three under three, it sometimes seems as though dreams, can’t come true, but everytime I look at your work, it reminds me that not only are they true, they’re real, and their right there are your fingertips! Thanks for sharing and thanks for always being soooo inspiring!

p.s. if you ever did do “foloow tara around for a day on a shoot”, or if you’re ever in dallas… PICK ME! PICK ME! jk… but not really….

  4. Love the photos. Isn’t Seattle great?! Thanks for giving us a peak into your bag. I’m going to be purchasing the 17-40 f4L (hoping for a Canon fall rebate next month.) Would that lens be good for photographing large groups? I’m doing “team photos” for a large charity event next year and am trying to figure out the best lens for that.
