i meant to have posts set up while i was gone. after that last one, i pooped out (it was midnight and i was waking up four hours later) so forgive me. :)

monday, sep 10-ill be in your face again. i have a maternity session, repeat clients, my seattle sessions and more to share….plus NY-and oh we are loving it here. awhile back i was in san francisco and asked for recommendations on shops to visit. so im going to ask again, any shops in manhattan i must spend money at?

  3. the abc home & carpet store is the best!!!
    its in union square. 19th & broadway. dont miss it. seriously.

    also, you should check out paper presentation.
    its right in union square area also. the address is 23 w. 18th st.

    but union square is my favorite area of nyc. lots to just roam around & see for shops anyway. good stuff for sure.

  6. I love Canal Street…it is the best place for fabulous, cheap stuff. I think you would love the photo ops.

    Around the corner from there is another fun little store called Tinsel Trading Co. They have ceiling to floor little old wooden drawers with all kinds of fun little finds.

  14. If you have any interest in cute fabric or yarn, go to Purl in Soho. The fabric and yarn shops are separate but next to each other. Both nice color experiences, even if you don’t buy anything.

    Oh, and I’d also recommend going to Upright Citizen’s Brigade for improv comedy if you’re up for some laughs. It’s cheap too, which is nice. http://www.uprightcitizens.org/

    Around the corner there is a very kitchy, slightly offensive bar called The Trailer Park Lounge that has a lot of cool vintage stuff on the walls. Good for a quick drink. http://www.trailerparklounge.com/

  15. there is a mega good ribbon store in the garment district…shoot…i can’t remember the streets.

    some of my ny favorites include:
    fishes eddy (www.fisheseddy.com)
    in the village there is (an awesome thai place called spice (www.spicenyc.net). It is amazingly good.
    for good and cheap pizza…mercato pizza rocks (corner of waverly and mercer st) near NYU and the 6train.
    there is an awesome PB&J place in the village on Sullivan st (www.ilovepeanutbutter.com)

    can you tell I was preggo when there? lol …it was all about food!

    go to the south street seaport. there is a great view of the brooklyn bridge and waterfront. and some good shops. :)

    I think everyone else hit good spots. :)

  16. south street seaport is great for views of the bridge (in the back of the mall shops) and brooklyn (in the front of the mall shopts) and seeing the old area/streets, etc. shops are overpriced. there is an art store in there where they have prints…i bought the exact same ones at a store in uptown for an eighth!! of the price.

    i would suggest saving h&m and upright citizens for LA, since you have them closer to your home.

    the blue note jazz club is historical and a fun place to watch live music – even if you don’t like jazz.

    many ppl thing uptown is snobby. i’ve stayed in both up and downtown. now d.t. is more trendy than uptown. the park is the obvious suggestion..also, the best grocery store (with some interesting knick knacks too) ever is on 72nd and broadway – fairway market…

    you may have seen these products in specialty stores (actually starbucks -ack-even commissioned a thermos from them), but the stores are in nyc and paris – pylones. locations – http://www.pylones-usa.com/infopylones.php?

    do you have lush in la? if not, and you like smelly naturally made skin products, go there. it’s in midtown…

    capezio – yes the dance shop. midtown. great place to see historical dancers’ stuff from broadway musicals – in the back of the store-and to get cute, cute stuff that anybody could wear. shoes and clothes. we saw lots of dancers shopping there, but also regular folks. it’d be fun to buy dress up clothes for your girls there, too.

    i could go on and on. you are in my fave city in the world. i’m so jealous of you guys!! have fun.

  18. so many good places already named…if you like indian food my favorite place EVER is Indian curry Mahal on 2nd ave between 4th and 5th. I second Spice for good thai, so nummy. so many kewl places were named for shopping, i think everyone hit my favs.

    Best pizza ever is bleeker st pizza on the corner of bleecker and 7th ave. Get the thick slice- has some italian family name to it cannot remember..it’s awesome :)

  20. Carmines-a great Italian restaurant. Between 7th and 8th, I think on 44th st. Right across the street from Phantom of the Opera. The strawberry shortcake is to die for.

    lots of fab treasures ranging from tiny to massive. great for a good old rummage! they have 2 places, one out round soho and one closer in.
    soho, the village, china town and little italy are great for a wander with loads of photo ops.
    oh! and if you get chance you so have to go eat at ellens stardust diner on broadway! just for the atmosphere and live entertainment! its just fab.
    and the empire diner in chelsea is great to for food and just the whole visual aspect.
    have a fab time, I am jealous as heck! So gotta go back there soon ;-)
