bathroom graffiti | july 09

We have a small vintage chalkboard hanging up in our downstairs bathroom.

I like to think of it as my own personal brainwashing device. That whatever I may write onto it will be soaked up by the spongey brains of my children as they sit and contemplate life on the commode. I have been known to write things like:

flush!
all employees must wash their hands before returning to work. -the management
beat the day
obama for your momma
be kind
listen to your mother
etc

However…what seems to be happening instead is that it has become a springboard for whoever happens to visit. A springboard into the funny sarcastic little wading pool that is my friends and family.

“All employees must wash their hands before returning to work (signed -the management)” becomes this:

0.

The communist party? Hardly. Okay, well maybe. I guess we are pretty commie around here. I love how Doug and Drew were both with it enough to turn their was into WAZ. But Nate was a little short on the how to insert cool Zs into your words stick. Take note of the scratchy I heart U scribbled by Anna. This is an old board. Maybe a year old, or more. My friend Christine snapped this while at my house.

Our current brainwashing board looks like this:

It started out as a sign in board. But no one was signing in, so one morning after having watched a documentary about “herd mentality” I wrote this: “Don’t follow the crowd. Always do what you know is right.”

Apparently that would be blue agave tequila.

“Guys?” is a Southpark reference/inside joke.

I do not know whose birthday it was. Or why they chose to use numeral signs to make a heart instead of just drawing a freaking heart. Oh wait, maybe thats a clue. It was probably one of the 12 year old girls I drove to school the last week of school with Drew.

And, look up tenesmus at your own risk.

  1. I confess that i looked up tenesmus. (now i’m trying to figure out where i can use my new vocab in my world..hee hee hee) Bathroom humor is my favorite.
Maybe that 12 year old is trying to not follow the crowd by using actual letters to write something..
    ..and i love this idea.

  2. I wrote the tenesmus on the board and must admit my pride that it made the blog…. and that people actually looked it up. One of the many medical terms I have to use…there’s a word for everything isn’t there?

  3. Tenesmus used in a sentence:

“I’m starting a colon cleanse and I hope I don’t get tenesmus.” Actually hoping for the OPPOSITE result. ROFL

I blog hopped over here from my friend, Laura Vegas and have been reading for a couple of years. LOVE your blog and photography. It’s one of my happy places. :) Thanks for that.

    Simply put: You rock.

    Have a fabulous day!

  4. My daughter has a friend that painted her whole room with chalkboard paint and everyone wrote poetry, song lyrics and graffiti (I am sure I did not spell grafitti right!) on it. When we moved to our new house, Hannah wanted to do the same. As an alternative, my hubby found an old school room chalkboard that we hung on her wall. Every inch is covered in drawings, graffiti, poetry and signatures. Makes her and I happy.

  5. I love it. I have a magnetic scrabble board in mine. I sometimes wonder about the hygiene part but the comments are worth it. Sometimes I don’t discover what messages people have left for a few days and then it cracks me up.

  6. Oh my gosh, I love that chalkboard! We have a huge marker board in our kitchen that was supposed to keep track of who needs to be where and when. Since then it has turned into a big ole’ funny graffiti board. My 11 year old class clown son makes it pretty entertaining everyday. :0)

  7. My Mum kept a huge calendar on the back of the bathroom door with a pen on a string attached. The funniest comments were always those left by guests. Was a terrific way to keep a family of 6 up to date with everything. There was nothing else to look at!
