collecting

I have had a lot to read and a lot to think about this week in regards to my last post. Thank you for all of the thoughtful comments and emails, I’ve read all of them. I also have a lot more to say about the subject, and I plan on it, as soon as I finish collecting my thoughts. And as soon as these kids get back to school. We have four days left and I am going to savor/cherish/soak up every single second. We will get back to my regular scheduled programming next Thursday.

August clients, your galleries will start going up towards the end of next week as well. xo

This is an image of Anna’s shell/rock/found item collection, from August. She had rinsed and washed everything in the kitchen sink, as little girls are wont to do. I placed them on the counter like this to dry. She literally falls in love with each piece as if it were a pet. Right now some are in a bowl on my coffee table, just waiting to be sifted through, and most are lined up along any flat surface she can find. I love it.

Carry on.
Tara

  1. Awww…my daughter used to do the same thing. Now she’s almost 16 and while she doesn’t collect as many and fuss over them, she still does this. I just found two shells on her dresser from our trip out to California. I love that she has them.

  2. This collection reminds me of life. Each person we know, each experience we have is different and unique than all the others, yet it comes together beautifully. What a wonderful journey life is! Although I don’t have the following that you do, I struggle with how much to put myself ‘out there’ into the unknown. Although, I sure appreciate your thoughts and expressions :) Thanks for what you choose to share.

  3. oh yes yes yes! My daughter’s don’t get lined up nearly so neatly though lol. But in little piles in every room all over the house for sure. And each little pile is precious. Enjoy these last few days – we are already back in school and the freedom of summer feels far away.
Lovely to hear your voice Tara :)

  4. I did the same thing when I was young like that, I still have most of my little trinkets in the little cedar boxes…I would find a rock, a piece of broken anything and bring it home and cherish it until my mom threw it out because she thought it was junk..it is a wonder I am not a Hoarder! Nope, nice clean organized house, but I still like to collect rocks and trinkets!

  5. Hello, my name is Jana, and I’m a collector of natural treasures – still at age 52! Maybe it’s ’cause I grew up here in Oregon with the Pacific ocean less than 2 hours away, or we have forests with feathers, seed pods, pine cones, and mushrooms abundant to discover? Either way, I hope Anna will still be collecting her whole life too! (P.S. a fun way to store these treasures are in antique vessels – I have tiny agates in an old syrup pourer glowing in my kitchen window)

  6. I’m still a collector of natural things and I’m in my late-ish 40s. Last weekend we camped in San Simeon and I picked up a handful of teeny tiny pieces of jade, both because it was so beautiful and because Jade is my daughter’s name. We live in a beach town (near you, Tara) but I never tire of picking up sea glass or shells.

  7. frack I love you! You don’t know me, but your honesty, and real writing, plus your photos, make me want to know you! THis blog is great. Do what you need, as you need! I don’t check in much (as I struggle with these issues too) but I will always come back.

  8. Oh dear. Please thin the herd by thinning my comment completely. I very cumbersomely hit send on my phone. So many typos and meant to say “I’m NOT a writer” in the end.

All the very best to you and your family.
