Here is the second session from our trip to Santa Barbara. I photographed two sisters back to back. This sister went second. (The first session/sister can be found here.)
I walked over to them immediately after photographing her sister and brother in law having a romp in the shore break. They both looked at me and said, “We are so not going to do that.” And we all laughed and laughed. I told them that was perfectly fine by me, and off we went.
I always thought I would have all girls. Creating two boys came as a surprise to me, but I wouldn’t change it for a second. I LOVE what I call ‘boy energy’. Not everyone can understand or appreciate it, but I completely can. Boys are just ….. incredible. And so are girls, in a completely different way. Going from a family of three boys to a family of three girls meant a quick switch of my own energy, and it was a great learning experience on how to give what you need to give as a photographer.
Can you see why I just fell for all of them hook, line, and sinker?
Just beautiful, in and out.
I left these two families with so much happy energy, grateful for my job, my life, and my own family.

Pleeeeeeese can you come to Mebourne. I sooo want those photos with my family in them!!! Stunning.
Wow! Beautiful sessions. I loved your reflection of boy energy vs. girl energy. I always thought I would have girls, but was pleasantly surprised with boys. I appreciate it too! :)
Before I die I will be able to afford to fly you to the shores of New Jersey to photograph my family (or Philadelphia…either or!) Its on my bucket list.
love!!
I really love the B&W’s in this bunch, but I have to say that the one of the whole family under the tree from a distance is one of the coolest shots EVER.
The B & W with all the girls in a hug is magnificent.
not even knowing this family, i can completely get a vibe for “who” they are
well done
gorgeous images!
Oh. My. There goes my heart. That one of the mom with her three girls snuggled in close…wow. There is such a sense of safety and intimacy in the pictures of this family. And I love the 3 boys pictures too! Different energy, yes! I have three boys–so much fun!

your photos are gorgeous and inspiring!
Both of those feet shots! In love!
Classic Tara Whitney. Gorgeous.
You manage to smash more beauty into your photos all the time. It’s astonishing!
I love Butterfly Beach! Santa Barbara has some of the best beaches around on the coastline. The views are excellent and the wall that lines the beach is a very popular local hang out. The sunsets there are exceptional as well! I was just in town and the weather was so nice; I stayed at the Sandman Inn (www.thesandmaninn.com). So affordable and the location is the absolute best! Very quaint and cozy as well!
Tara – I am so in love with the photos you take. I can just feel the love and fun oozing from every picture. Someday, someday I will make it down to your neck of the woods and have you create beautiful pictures for my family….
love the arc of that driftwood arching over them, the fingers in the hair, the crossed-arms and closed eyes. . .you always find the art in simple connections ♥
these photos knocked my socks off. what a gift for that beautiful family.
These are wonderful I love the way you captured this family and their connections.
At the end of the day when my boys walk in I hug them and smell their heads. “Mmm, you smell like boy,” I whisper to them and they always look me right in the eye and smile. It’s a ritual. (I should write that down somewhere.)
I always thought I would have all girls, too. So glad it turned out differently.
The ALL About Me Album in clearance … I think it is precious. How did I miss this????
I have ordered from Photographer Cafe before. Love the stuff….love Fleur!
You could rename your business “sunshine” because that’s what I feel whenever I look at your images. All the families appear to be carefree, natural, sunkissed, in love, & “come as you are,” no made up stuff style. I am in love with the striped skirt, the beachy waves in the hair & the sandy toes. I am a mom of 3 girls of similar ages to this family, so this shoot really spoke to me.
Thats funny that one sister has 3 girls and the other has 3 bpys, hehe

I’d pay you about a million dollars for pictures like these with my kids. If I get it, its yours! The third one w. the mom and her girls – LOVE!
she reminds me of leslie mann and the daughter (oldest?) in the middle of the top shots looks like her daughter maude apatow. :)
wow.
seriously tara…..amazing shots!!! i love the one under the tree!!!
2 DIE 4!!! That giant driftwood…it looks like you placed those boulders there! Awesome! I want a driftwood picture of my fam if I ever come your way. I’ll be thinking about it until i do…
I love this session so much. Just wonderful in so many subtle artistic ways.
The B&W one with the little girl twirling – WOW!!
i think this is my ultimate favorite family session. I love it. sooo real and just beautiful.
This is one of my favorite shoots Tara! Soooooo flipping beautiful!!
