“There is something about getting a stick and writing in the sand that is just as good as sucking up a bunch of dirt with a vacuum or hosing off the back patio.”
These are the thoughts I think.
We like to write messages in the sand.
We like to bury Uniqua and make Mckenna find her. (Mckenna likes it too.)
We like to drift and then find our way back to our original spot.
We like to examine seaweed.
We like to dig holes that fill up with water.
We like making sand angels.
We like stepping on the heads of each others’ shadows.
I love Anna’s raccoon glasses tan.
I love how Mckenna doesn’t really notice the sand.
I love watching the boys get trashed by a wave.
I love beach hair.
I love hearing their laughter mixed with the sound of seagulls.
I love the ocean when it’s like this – gently rolling waves onto the shore, like you would under-hand a ball to your toddler.

I love your words, how you look at things and photograph them and share them with us =)
I love the look of the water as it rolls up over the sand. That linear looking photograph…I have so many photographs that are similar…it’s one of nature’s perfect compliments sand and bubbly ocean waves!
There is something about the way you write and take pictures that makes me feel like I am on the beach even if I am sitting in a dry desert in Southern Utah. Thanks for the trip, even if it is in imagination for us readers:)
crunchy, chunky, salty smelling beach hair….love it. don’t get much of that here in OH. ;)
i LOVE beach hair, too. have yet to experience any beach hair this year, hopefully this weekend.
perfect!
Love that last line. Growing up on the beach, it makes me sad that I don’t have these regular days with my own kids. It is such a part of me.
a week from today i will see your coast for the first time! i love your images. my personal blog has been so dead for so long. this inspires me to put myself with my kids somewhere that we love. and p.s. i legitimately want Anna’s bathing suit. and p.p.s. i hope my two boys love each other the way it seems your two do.
I love the photos and how your words sm up what so lovely about your trip to the beach. As a beach lover I can so relate xx Divine xxx
wow, Anna sure is looking more grown up! i’ve been missing your posts, and these pictures made me realize just how much…
Love the silhouette self portrait – feelings of freedom of the ocean + the warmth of the sun on the skin + beach hair = one hot mama!
perfect!
Love the image of your beach angel in the sand. Oh, and we have that neon pink swimsuit in this house, too :).
I’ve always wanted to live near the ocean. Seeing your photos and reading your words makes me long for it even more. Thank you for sharing.
i love that you have a beach family. jealous of how close you are to the ocean.
Love your shadow silhouette–it’s HOT! Love these captures and Anna’s cute ruffle top swimsuit. Adorable.
like you would under-hand a ball to your toddler. That line is perfection…….thank you for sharing your beautiful family and your tender thoughts.
no tara, NO! everyone looks so big and old! i can’t bear it!!
i miss beach days with you guys xx
I second the silhouette photo. And although you say you love the rain?….you’d never make it here in Sammamish. Taylor and I saw something on GMA or Today….whatever…about Seattleites buying more sunglasses per capita than any other city in the nation. That’s because we can never find them, we use then so seldom. Still waiting for our summer!
beautiful, especially those kids, but the words + pictures too!

Oh how I ‘like’ this….! And that last pic is smoking!!
so jealous you live near a beach… best back drop ever
you’re so poetic. i love your words.
i love how you put things into words. i wish i was there with my kids.
Your kids are seriously GORGEOUS! Especially LOVE the one of Mckenna with Uniqua in the sand :)
oh – and to Jessz & tracy – buy some bumble and bumble “surf spray” for your hair! it’s how i fake it when i’m away from the beach :)
LOVE this!
I love your beach pictures. I wish I lived closer to the beach! Your kids are getting so old. It’s been fun to watch them grow. ummm and just to let you know if it is written on facebook, it’s true.
I just can’t get over how much I dig that side photo of the wet matted hair and the peak of the mole. Dig it for sure.
