And I didn’t mind at all. I love the way wind makes everyone just a little bit hyper, and makes hair look amazing.
I just love the colors in this session. I feel like the beach images are especially soft and creamy and I want to lick them up in an ice cream cone.
Momma packed some great outfits and brought them all the way from Montana, where they live.
Great little family.

beautiful! makes me want to have a blustery day here…wait, i take that back, we just had a major snow storm here yesterday and it wasn’t so fun.
wind on the beach would be fun though!
perfection (love)!
amazing! love what you captured…your images are truly wonderful
love the girls dresses, the cape and the family’s energy:)
LOVE the individual of the boy for in front of the car! Hope they order the JUMBO version of that one! Great shoot once again. I love when you post these – I learn so much!
what a fantastic session!!!!! and those dresses on the girls… seriously? they are as cute as they come! i’d love to know where they came from or brand name if the momma happens to see this! or tara, if you wouldn’t mind asking for me!
Tara, thanks again for the great pics and the outfit compliment. To answer jen’s question – I searched high and low for the perfect dresses, being a photog myself I was determined to find some colorful dresses that popped. I finally found these at a vintage store in Montana, they are originals from the 50’s.
Love this shoot Tara. I love this family. Just their vibe.
I LOVE your AUTHENTIC and REAL style!! It definitely is a “Tara Whitney” look!!
i can feel the wind through these photos. lovely.
I love the picture with the two girls against the door in b&w – it could have been from 50 years ago.
I love the mom’s jacket too.
When are you coming to Australia? Photos like this of my family would make me very, VERY happy. I just love your work. What lens were you using in this shoot (if you don’t mind sharing!)?
Tara,
I have been following your work for a long time, but I had never commented it. Well, here is my first one.
I feel that what surfaces from your work the most is honesty. I don’t think this can be learnt – it comes naturally to you. You have a great talent. Keep up the good work.

Awesome session Jana… so jealous. It is my dream to have my family photographed by miss Tara. Hey… if you can travel from Montana to CA, then I think our trip from Minnesota should be do-able. Lovey, lovey, love it!
I want to know where the mama shops. I love her clothes!
Oh Tara, I just love the black and whites in front of the old building. Gorgeous!!
That first shot–those girls, the hair, the dresses–could have been an original b&w from 1950, minus the trendy little Popeye shirt. Those two look just like my mother and her sister. I did an absolute double take.
I LOVE the first one! Its kind of ‘other-worldly’. And those vintage dresses, well, they’re clearly just divine! Gorgeous and wonderful photos Tara : )
i totally love that mama’s coat…. will she pack it up and send it to me in australia?
Love these Tara.. someday I am going to save up my money.. come to Cali and have you do a family session for me…
You’ve done it again. Fabulousness.
fantastic! i love these images. every time i see your sessions, i think of my first time to see a beach and i wonder what it will be like. i imagine it will be something different than it would be at 2 or 5 or 12 but it will be exciting none-the-less, i think.
I love blustery days, and I love the word “blustery.” And I especially love little boy kisses right on Mama’s mouth! Great pictures.
so beautiful!
love the shot of the dirty piggies!!!
Sweet family!! I was guessing the dresses might be vintage from the ’50’s… They remind me of some my Mom kept of mine – from the 60’s & I was able to let my girls wear too! Lovely blustery weather pics!
Love that first picture. That family was so blessed to have you be their photographer. :)
AMAZING as always. I think this is one of my favorites…
So fresh, fun, and REAL! Love it!!
PLEASE can you find out where those fab retro dresses are from?? I’ve been scouring ebay and etsy for months, but these look new and love the colors. Pretty, pretty please =)
You are such an incredible photographer! I loved the moments you capture. I also noticed the clothes right away — she’s got great taste! :)
The shots of the little girl holding up her skirt for the waves are beautiful. well, they all are, but those are speaking to me. ;)
They’re from Montana: had the kids seen the ocean before this trip?
This session is wonderful!!
I love the family shot from behind.
It IS soft and creamy.
The little dresses in black and white look so vintage.
I think you are right…the wind adds a little sumthin’ sumthin’
What a special session. I am crazy over the superhero cape and the World Peace Please shirt. My favorite is the black & white of all of them on the beach. Lovely.
Oh how I love love love love these. One of these days I’ll make it out there with my family…. or just fly you here :)
I want you to capture my family so badly. Seriously. I really love the image of the little boy behind the woody! And the girls dresses…. so perfect! (especially with the shoes they paired with them)
I agree on the colours AND the textures. Tx Tara!
