huntington beach on an 80˚ sunday

img_02181

yesterday, jeff and i woke up grumpy. our options were either get out of the house or watch our sunday go down the drain in a haze of lazy grumpiness. it was 80˚ and we had nothing planned, so why not?

“everyone get your suits on and grab a towel! dont bother to brush your hair! LETS GO!”

we got to the huntington pier and parked (barely. everyone else had the same idea as us.)

walked to the end of the pier for lunch at ruby’s diner. suffered through the hour wait by torturing my family with photos.

nate was sporting the kanye glasses – so we all had a turn.

and then we ate.

oh… my boys. the brothers. my man children. my beautiful little people.

and then jeff and i sat in the sand sharing headphones and listening to music until the sun went behind some clouds and the wind got cold and strong.

and then we packed up and headed home.

  1. What a great day! That first photo reminds me of photographer Richard Misrach’s On the Beach series…I had seen a display of his work in Chicago about a year ago…very powerful stuff, I still think about it.

  2. Hey… I have been to Huntington Beach.. quite along time ago.. but I have been there.. that counts right? what a lovely series of photos and I dont think you could of found anything better to do on a beautiful sunday..

  3. i’m just a lurker and admirer of your photography. in my attempt to learn a bit of the trade myself, i’ve loved getting inspiration and ideas from your blog. i could not help myself from commenting on this post though. i live in utah now, but grew up in palos verdes, ca, and I MISS THE BEACH, like you wouldn’t believe. we used to love to come down to huntington and spend the same day you did there. so, thank you for taking advantage of the amazing place you live, and know that i am SO jealous of your day.

  4. amy-YES you do recognize them! hahaa
im so sorry, i didnt mean to make everyone feel so bad about their weather! honestly, when its november here and still in the high 80’s, and you guys are all cuddly and snuggly with hot cocoa and a blanket and a fire, and i am sweating my head off and DYING and the kids are going back to school with heat stroke, ill be jealous of YOU! i do know how lucky i am though. we have always wanted to live near the beach. we moved here five years ago, and i am so grateful to just be able to go to the beach whenever i want.

  5. Raniy and cold in No CA! We moved up her 8 yrs ago and love it, but oh, 80 degrees in March……HEAVEN!!!! Love Rubys too….really loved your favorite two photos of the kids……you never disappoint. Rain predicted for No CA all week :( although we do need it and the hills are Gorgeous!
