yesterday, em came over after school as a surprise for the little girls (we have been hearing moan-y sad complaints like “when will we EVER SEE HER AGAaaaaaaaaaaIN?” with much flopping and hand to forehead sighing) (an hour spent on video chat sunday evening did nothing to satisy them) (where did they ever learn that? certainly not from their overly dramatic and emotional mummas!), to watch our tivo’d project runway, and get indian for dinner. and so that i could eat my weekly allotment of yindi’s neck.

our routine has become ritual at this point. sacred. and awesome.

she also sewed a new (vintage!) ribbon onto my camera strap. i’ve been eyeballing it for weeks in her shop, and lucky me, i get it for free. and guess what? SO DO YOU! (well, one of you!) we decided it would be totally fun to do a camera strap giveaway on my blog. for anyone that doesn’t know, em started making her “funky camera straps” in april 2007. no one else was doing it at the time, she is the original gangsta! when we met, she had the coolest strap on her camera, and i begged her for ages to start making them and selling them. i knew firsthand how hard it was to find a cool strap. i had looked high and low for years for a camera strap that wasnt just utilitarian. and im the google queen, and i could never find anything that wasnt intended for an older male photog and his khaki pocketed vest. she set up shop on etsy, and has sold over 800 of them since.

  13. OH MAH GOSH!!! Those are awesomely adorable! I so want one. My strap drives me nuts…my neck gets all sweaty and hot. I wish I was talented with making stuff…but alas, I’m not. That just means that I get to enjoy other people’s talents! :) You ROCK Tara! Thank you…

  18. I was just looking at some *other* maker of camera straps just the other day and remembered that they didn’t look as cool as some other fun camera straps I had seen…and then you post this! This is the one I had seen a while back and couldn’t remember the link. Thank you for sharing! Even if I don’t win, I’m putting it on my wish list! They look so fun! YOu look so cool!!!

    Linda (left a comment earlier) and I shoot together and she asks me on pretty close to, no I’m going to say, on a daily basis if I have seen this or that about what you have going on, one of your new ideas, how awesome you are, etc. I can vouch for the fact that she is your number one fan. I always tease her about how she is your stalker. Not that I don’t think everything that flies from your fingertips isn’t gold, I do. But she is NUTS over you! I’m going to have to vote for her to get the strap.

    LOVE your thoughts, ideas, work, smile. I really loved what you said in your last post about your husband taking a minute to get it back where it fits. So true. Way cute girls!

    Let me start by saying that you are so wonderful! You are such a huge inspiration, and I love how you can capture the true heart of everyone!
    I am a new business owner, and am so excited and thrilled(and a lil scared). And am so thankful that there are so many other women photographers that are not only a great inspiration but are so willing to share great tips,and other resources. I have been meaning to just send a little note, and let you know how much I adore your photography, and after seeing that amazing camera strap….what better time :)
    I do have a camera COVER for my strap but it is time for an update, and am loving your friends etsy shop!
    OH, and I must mention that the wall you created in your home i had seen on Erin Veys website also, and is something i am SOOO doing! I love it, and have something similar but love your artistic photos and how it is all put together.

  33. Very cool! I don’t own a camera that big to strap one to, but I just might have to get one if I win this! So PICK ME! Or I guess I could give it to my cool photographing friend for Christmas…I think I’d rather get a new camera!
