backyard skate ramp

Maren is a friend that I met through another friend. I have photographed her one other time. We traveled to Thailand together. I have always loved her and it was really cool to get to see her in her home ELEMENT. Her beautiful home and family charm me completely. The ‘sports complex’ they have created in their backyard was a dream to photograph! Lucky kids. Lucky photographer!

Dinner time. Many rituals are sacred for me personally, and dinner is one of them. How the faces change, how the chores are completed, and how in ten years it will be just two of us. The dinner table is the definition of family life and something I have always yearned to document for someone else. I am grateful they trusted my vision and really, really loved creating those images.

This was a night of loving the creative process. So much to create here!

Happy Friday night. I am looking very forward to the weekend (I don’t have to make lunches at 7am).

  1. I am such a fan of your blog and your photography. I never comment, but I am here! :) I dream of making enough money with my photography business one day so I could afford you and you could photograph my babies and I. I go to California all the time, so it is possible. That would be super way cool beans. Peace out. :D

  2. Woot! YAY, for another family of 6! We are too. Dinner time is really our most important meal of the day. There is something so comforting about sitting down to a good meal and having conversation with the people you hold closest.

In our home, it’s the only time during the week we are all together…happy! It’s the most fulfilling moment of the day for me as a mother.

Such a beautiful job capturing this super cool family!! I’m sure they are so in love with their photos!!

  3. What an awesome set of photos- and I love your commentary. Your perspective is beautiful. It’s a timely reminder for those of us with small people where dinner is both a joy and hard work of teaching routines and manners boundaries and how to ‘share’ the meal… That in amongst all that its such a short time before we will be alone again without our babies at the table. Your wording really got me and your images too. Thanks

  4. I just went and looked at the Thailand post for the first time. What a wonderful moment to have in your life. I’m very envious.
Beautiful family photographs, as always. The last one made me smile. :) You are a gift to your clients Tara. Hope you know that.
