  1. Hah! The grass is always greener….after 5 years in the RV, tent camping seems like a blast of an idea to me (specially if there’s cinnamon rolls in the picture!) We are happily settled into our ‘new’ life with real walls and doors in BC Canada (and jobs heaven forbid!). Harvey the RV lives in a nearby campsite ready for weekend getaways – but he’s vying for attention from the tent too now! – And tents fit better on the back of bikes after all! Still loving your photos – we’ll have to reserve a spot with you for our 10th wedding anniversary shots in 2 years time (I’m still clinging to the idea that I look the same as I did when you photographed us 3 years ago! – a girl can dream eh?!) Hope you’re keeping well Tara :-) Helen & Chris.x

  3. mike and i took our girls to san elijo last memorial day… i think we were one of two tents there! ;) those rv riggs look awfully tempting as we squeezed into our tiny tent.. but i wouldn’t trade it! tent campers unite! :) i am hoping we can find a few open dates for reservations this spring!

  4. We have a Westfalia VW camper van & a tent. We traveled thru Arizona w/4 of us in the van – for 1 1/2 weeks – cozy traveling/camping to say the least! Our house seemed HUGE when we returned home! More often than not we choose the tent now – especially since we have a queen size blow-up mattress & a/c in our car… Love, love, love, tent camping! Great camping pics you’ve shared—so true to life :).

  5. Has Anna had the chop? It looks like it,if so I like it.Camping is hard work but such a priceless experience! Creating more family memories I see!

  6. We were there last year and SUPPOSED to be there this year. We actually had reservations. 6 families all got on their computers Oct. 1st, the first day you can make reservations for April. I had two computers going. Every family got reservations except for 1. I even got the site I wanted (#52). We decided to hold on to see if eventually down the line there would maybe be a cancellation for family #6 but it didn’t happen. So, we all cancelled and went to Campland on the Bay. Did we like it? Sure, but it’s definitely not San Elijo. San Elijo is a photographer’s dream. I’m glad you guys had a good time!

  7. Epic! I’ve only once camped with our 4 kids. Something I always like the sound of -in theory- but I think I’d do my head in working out how to pack. It’s hard enough packing for 6 to go on vacation! Looks like you had a great time though.

  8. awesome! It’s so rare to find “tenters” LOL We have a tent that we refer to as the “Monster Tent” – its huge and sleeps all 8 of us with room to spare :P

  9. With a fountain soda machine? LOL This looks so awesome. I am craving a camping trip and the beach would be so dreamy. Need to pick your brain about this location. Never heard of it and we camped at the beach all the time as a kid.

  10. I love camping bc you realize all you need can be packed in a car. Simplicity. Though, the older I get I want one of those Air Stream trailers. And what is that in the pic 3rd down from the top, right hand side….a block of cheese? butter?

  11. Hey tara…we LOVE this location and usually come and stay there! I TOTALLY recognize that fence and the missing link…so I think we stayed at the same plot or near it…funny. I totally agree with the tent trailer…especially with the gaggle of children we have! :) Hope you had a restful time…the last time we went I was stupid and brought my laptop…put the darn thing in a suitcase and hubs STEPPED on it and cracked the screen and ruined the DVD drive. Good memories. ha

  12. Ahhh Tara, perfect!

So of our favourite family memories have been made while we were camping. We are always excited to go for a week in our tents, but each time we come home we all want a trailer for next time! :)

  13. Ok, I am dying right now! We were there too!!! I would have “freaked” if I saw you. Probably best, I didn’t. I would’ve scared you and embarrassed myself and my kids….and the best part is, I spent the day shooting photos…being the best “tara whitney” I could be! Thanks for always being awesome and inspiring!

  14. I was looking at this post and my son (6) peered over my shoulder and said, “Hey! Are those cinnamon rolls?” Looks like fun. (Looks like it tasted good, too.)

  15. Ha ha I soooooo hear you!!! We’re just back from 2 weeks camping around Oman and man, the times I wished for a trailer instead of a tent but then we’d have never got onto the deserted beaches we did – there are alwasy trade offs – you guys look far more organised than we were though!!
